Hello everyone!

I started keto about two weeks ago, but only lost 1 pound so far!!! This is making me really upset and im losing motivation. I see most people are seeing such drastic results… Can someone please tell me what i am doing wrong?? Here is my daily calorie intake and macro breakdown. I try to stay at 1800 calories, and workout about 600calories four times a week. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!!

No you don’t. You SEE SOME people reporting things like that. It’s a thousand kilometres from “most.”

Keto is this easy (Keto for beloved noobs)

This is for Phase One - the starter phase. It’s still not complicated later, but this is the really easy to explain version which will help you no end.

  • Eat under 20g of carbs a day

  • Don’t worry about the scale

  • Eat plenty of good food - fat and protein - while adhering to 20g/carbs/day. Don’t worry too much about macros and calories EXCEPT carbs. Keep them below 20g/day. (Prioritize the protein - always start with protein in every meal, but don’t panic about it.) Your job is to get fat-adapted, so give your body the fuel you want it to use. Also, your appetite will vary - it’ll disappear, then it’ll come roaring back. Happens to most people, don’t sweat it.

  • ELECTROLYTES/SALT - KEEP THEM UP

  • Buy the meat you can afford - don’t stress about grass-fed, organic (con), etc… The worst meat is better than the best bread.

  • This site has a search function (magnifying glass at the top of the page) and a newbies section - use them both, you’ll get a better variety of answers to your questions far more quickly that way. SERIOUSLY, THIS IS VERY USEFUL.[1]

That’s as difficult as it needs to be for a couple of months.

My good friend Terence (being friends with a Kiwi feels kinda dirty, but there you have it, keto makes for strange bedfellows) tells me this thing I have described above is called “dirty keto.” So yeah, do dirty keto, kids!

I lost a couple of pounds of water weight the first month - lost the “fat weight” at four to five months. But I am a short (5’4") female with not a lot to lose. Just have patience and keep at it. Please tell us your height and weight.

Hello and welcome Carrie.

More information might be helpful in order to nudge you in the right direction: things like age, current weight and whether or not you have T2D or other health conditions that might be holding you back.

There’s a lot of reasons that can make your body reluctant to give up body fat:

stress
poor sleep
carbs need lowering
artificial sweeteners
not eating enough or eating too much

In general women have a more difficult time losing weight than men. It’s not uncommon for women to go weeks or even a month before they see results on the scale. Female hormones can be real protective of body fat and you might just need more to time to get them to trust releasing it is a good idea.

One way to know that you are on the right is if you are noticing any positives in the past few weeks. How’s your energy, do you feel better, are cravings and hunger the same or less, are your clothes any looser?

Welcome!. I also started two weeks ago, I get from most people on here, ignore the scale. Have you noticed anything different in inches?

I haven’t lost weight but I’ve lost a few inches bust wise. I think you should stick it out…we are babes in the keto timeline. We haven’t learned to walk yet.

Carrie, I didn’t even weigh for the first 2.5 months on keto. I decided to give it time, trust the process, do what I needed to do to eat <20 g TOTAL carbs/day. That meant I was ok with snacking on bacon or anything else with no carbs, so I didn’t worry about calories or weight loss.

When you’re making big changes to your diet, you tend to want to see big changes as quickly, but it often just does NOT happen that way. Focus on the fact that keto helps with INTERNAL changes, too…and those internal changes are what lead to weight loss. Lowered insulin levels, lowered glucose, plus you need to get fat-adapted and that can take up to 6 weeks.

Keto is NOT a lose weight quick diet. Those huge numbers you see are often from people who have a large amount of weight to lose, or they’re young men. Unfortunately, some people will also inflate their results to get attention, so not all that you read is true.
