Newbie asking am I doing a ketogenic diet?

First of all I will introduce myself as succinctly as possible, giving what I consider to be all the relevant information.

I am a 56 year old English guy who is 5ft 8 ins tall. My starting weight was 34 st 4 lb. Six weeks ago I started to simply remove all processed foods and diet drinks from my diet entirely. After two hard weeks I felt better having eliminated all the bad carbs that had made my whole life a miserly. During the past 4 weeks I have become aware of massive gut almost feeling like it has been fired up for the first time on my life. I became aware that it was as if my insides were working properly for the first time ever. It feels good because it’s as if I can feel my system running on a better fuel. So in summary I’ve slipped into this diet almost by chance and after only six weeks I have lost 4 stone. For the first time ever I feel my system is working as it should. I no.longer get tired and I have so.much increased energy, which helps me exercise. I was virtually bedridden just six weeks ago. I was down for baratric surgery in London and they will be amazed when I’m weighed again next month because in all probability it will show I have lost at least 4 stone but at the rate I’m going, probably even 5 or 6 stone in just 8 weeks. I have never enjoyed my food so.much as now. 80.per cent salad and vegatables with the remainder in fish and good meat cuts. I have very little carbs. I have gone from having about 4 litres of Coke Zero a day to having absolutely no diet drinks. I don’t miss them at all as water now tastes so refreshing. Finally, I have sufeed with depression for 20 odd years. Having been.on this beautiful clean healthy eating regime it feels like I can see and think clearly for the first time in decades. It’s as if a big black fug that I was living under has cleared and I feel so.good. My question is does it feel.like I have stumbled on to a keto diet? I asked this because I started out with the simple intention of going low carb by cutting all the processed food from my diet?

Certainly sounds like you have… welcome back to life!

Yes! Good clean water is great.

You’re eating very low carb, moderate protein and fat to satiety. That’s keto.

Sounds like it to me, I need to ditch the sodas myself.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #5

At 30 stone, you have a long road ahead of you, but you’ve made amazing progress already. I’m glad you’re already feeling better. A lot of people who lose weight from bariatric surgery gain the weight back eventually, but if you stay on the keto way of eating, you can keep the weight off over the long term.

Even with the surgery you would need to stay on some kind of eating plan. So why not skip the surgery and stick to the keto plan.
