New to this and cruising in 4 weeks

#1

I am going on a cruise in four weeks. Four days in New York and then two weeks around the Caribbean. Any tips? I don’t want to completely deny myself but I don’t want to go back to the start. Because I’m so new to Keto will it undo all my hard work so far if I enjoy some treats?

It won’t undo but it will certainly delay.
You are attempting to teach your body to use a new fuel source.
You will be confusing it by eating so many carbs.

There are so many treats that you can have that are ketogenic I think that the buffets are probably the easiest to eat ketogenic. Go to the carving station and have some delicious beef have some wonderful chicken and salmon go ahead and drench everything in hollandaise look for broccoli and Cauliflower, spinach. Let someone know that you are doing a carb free diet and see if they will make you a flourless sugarless chocolate torte it’s exquisite. And breakfast is a piece of cake you can have eggs and bacon and even sausage, although some is sugary, to your hearts content. I haven’t cruised but I’ve certainly gone on vacations with groups and I don’t have any problem eating ketogenically. My weight loss is it super important to me and I don’t want to give up a pound. If you think you are completely fat adapted and four weeks isn’t much, then you can probably splash out one meal. Enjoy the people and the activities cruises have to offer. You can have bubbly colored diet drinks that are not alcoholic just put in an olive or umbrella in it. Diet cranberry juice in a wine glass looks festive.

Do try the escargots if you find it on the menu! Probably my favorite food ever, and I’ve only ever had it on cruise ships.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #6

Assess your primary reason for going on the cruise. That will help you decide to proceed. I know that people look forward to the food on cruises, and if that’s an important part of the experience for you, then you should enjoy and go for it. But if your primary goal is seeing the sights or whatever, then staying keto might work better for you.

As far as staying keto is concerned, it shouldn’t be hard to avoid sweets and grains for the most part, and stick to meats, leafy greens, and other healthy vegetables (such as broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, etc.). If you check out the desserts, you can pick one or two especially yummy ones to have at some point during the trip. A couple of desserts in 18 days shouldn’t impede your progress too much—just make them desserts that are really worth it!

On the other hand, keto is a long-term way of eating, so if you simply want to pig out on the food as part of the cruise experience, that’s an option, too, as long as you’re sure you’ll make it back onto the horse once the cruise is over. I can see it being a fulfilling experience either way you choose to do it.
