Hi everyone ! Im 24 years old. I’ve been researching about Keto for like two weeks now and have found it very interesting. I will be trying the Keto diet for 4 weeks starting Monday. Do you guys have any tips for someone like me?
New to Keto!
My only tip is it will take a month to be fully fat adapted. So if you want to really know if keto is for you, you really need to fully commit for 3 months IMO.
I would like to strongly encourage you to listen to @KHAN’s advice. I am so glad I didn’t quit after one month, because I felt like crap as my body was withdrawing from sugar. It’s amazing the difference a couple of months make. I now have energy like I’ve never had in my entire adult life.
Salt. Magnesium. Potassium. PowerAde Zero.
There won’t be enough of any of those in your life. Look at your normal intake and plan to at LEAST double what you’re taking in. I promise, this will help stave off the keto flu. It’s not a great experience, but that will make it SO MUCH EASIER.
Follow @Brenda. Like… do whatever she says. That woman is BRILLIANT and such a huge inspiration. Do your research, follow things like the 2KD podcast.
Have fun.
Thank you ! I guess, I figured if I can get the discipline and motivation and everything else it takes to maintain a Keto diet for at least one month then the rest will come fairly easier.
I will tell you, that’s exactly what I did. I saw my doctor, and she prescribed this diet. I thought she was completely insane, which explains why I gave her one month. I had never considered even a standard LC diet before, let alone LCHF. I mean, what? How is fat supposed to make you skinny? Crazy bitch.
Several months later, I’m no longer on BP meds, have gone down four pant sizes, found my waistline (what!?), found some muscles (I didn’t know they were under all that fat), and lost my diagnosis of prediabetes.
As it turns out, I was the crazy bitch for not believing her. She’s so smart.
Agree with the above posters. I have been eating low carb (not keto) for 75 days as of today. I am just amazed at how I don’t get hungry anymore. In the past I associated losing weight with being hungry and gnawing on carrots all the time. This reality is bacon and eggs for breakfast and hunger just doesn’t feel the same way it used to, it’s almost like an afterthought to eat sometimes.
Give yourself time to be fat adapted and you will feel like it’s the easiest thing in the world.
For me I think it was breaking habits. We used to have spaghetti a couple of times a week, mostly because it doesn’t take any pre planning and I kept the stuff on hand. I had to make sure that I had options around the house that I could grab when I would get hungry, things like a delicious hard cheese (Kerrygold Dubliner is awesome), boiled eggs, low carb tortillas, etc.
Now if we run out of meals to cook at home and we go out, I can throw down a bunless Five Guys cheeseburger and leave totally satisfied. I don’t even look twice at the fries.
I track both carbs and calories, and the calculator gives me 1660 calories every day. Most days I struggle to get there so I have to make a conscious effort to eat enough. I have never been like this, pretty much was always a bottomless pit before, but it’s just incredible how ditching the carbs is such an easy thing once you get over the hump.
Hey!
Im new to keto and still figuring it all out. Im struggling with the macros and i cant understand total carbs and net carbs… and where can i find recipies that dont have pork?!
1464 kcal Daily Calorie Intake
20 g Carbs (5%, 80 kcal)
113 g Protein (31%, 452 kcal)
104 g Fat (64%, 932 kcal)
All I know is that net carbs are what matters in Keto. So I whatever total carbs the label has I deduct the grams that come from fiber and whatever number that gives me THAT is the net carb. … please someone correct me if I’m wrong tho.
So For example is a serving of bacon has 2g of “total carbs” and 1g of fiber. Then you subtract the fiber # with the total carbs # wich brings you to 1g net carb.
Again. Someone correct me if I’m wrong cause this is the way I’ve been doing it lol
You’ve got it. Some people try to keep their total carbs under 20 g a day, but when counting net carbs, that’s the way to do it.
@jsherazee There are plenty of meats you can eat that are not pork: beef, lamb, goat, duck, chicken, turkey, goose, and so forth. And recipes are easy to adapt. Want to fry some eggs? Fry them in butter or beef tallow (or even coconut oil) instead of bacon drippings or lard. Want to make a roast, but don’t want pork? Just buy beef, lamb, or goat and roast that instead. Simple!
Get the MCT oil. I cannot believe how much it helped with cravings. I am 33 days in, and I noticed the MCT oil difference on day 3. Make sure to drink your water, I got dehydrated during week 3, wasn’t fun.
