New to Keto / need help

(Tom) #1

So I bought a blood glucose meter and it only reads my glucose as 56mg/dL am I in optimal ketosis ? My girlfriends read 76mg/dL . How do I tell my ketone levels . Thank you

Blood glucose and ketone levels are different. I don’t personally own a meter so I can’t help you figure out how to use the meter. My understanding is that you have to make sure you get a meter that measures both.

I tried to calculate it on the internet but I’m lost .

Are you pre diabetic? BG levels go up and down after eating and sleeping whether you are or not. If your not feeling light headed or weak I wouldn’t worry. Maybe the result of low carb intake.

I don’t think so , I just want to make sure I’m in full optimal ketosis . But my girlfriend is concerned that my glucose is too low . And she’s afraid I’ll be hypoglycemic .

You have to buy a meter that measures ketones like a KetoMojo. Then the test strips are $1 each. You can’t calculate ketones from blood glucose.

Not necessary unless just curious.

56 is a bit low if you aren’t doing extended fasting, but it’s just a snapshot. Take more readings at different times during the day and look for a trend.

How long have you been doing the keto WOE?

(Running from stupidity) #8

Is there even such a thing?

(Tom) #9

I’m fasting 16:8 schedule

(Tom) #10

9 days doing Keto . I googled what Woe meant .

Did you calibrate your meter to your blood strips? Are you following the directions given by the meter manufacturer? If yes, you can trust your meter but there is a margin of error either way. You can test the same drop of blood three times and it may read three different readings.

(Running from stupidity) #12

And it’s a really significant amount, too.

(Allie) #13

You need a blood ketone meter to test for ketones, blood glucose is totally different.

16:8 is just skipping breakfast which isn’t a big deal even if not keto. Considered IF, but not EF.

I would take some more readings and look for a trend. You may have low blood sugar issues.
