New to keto! Ketones/glucose and More!

(Chad Phillips) #1

Hello all!

Im a newbie! I just wanted to say hi. Been taking my blood Ketone and glucose. and after 2 weeks my ketones are at 0.9 and my glucose just read 130! isn’t that high? 2 days ago just before bed my ketones were .07 and my glucose was 101. Should worry about glucose?

On a different note, what is everyones favorite keto dish? So far mine is Steak, lobster and shrimp from outback, hahaha

Thanks a lot guys

Chad

First time trying rib eye at a restaurant last week, I think that is my favorite.

If you’re only two weeks in, don’t worry about your numbers. Just keep your carbs low, protein moderate, and eat fat to satiety and you’ll be fine.

0.9 and 0.7 are good blood ketone numbers, especially when starting out.

130 would be a high blood glucose number if your were fasted, but might be a fairly typical number if you took the reading shortly after eating. Ideally, you’d like your fasting BG numbers to be below 100.

I took my readings about 1 hour after eating. I guess tomorrow ill take them right when I wake up and see what my fasting BG is. And as for not worrying about my numbers, I cannot do that, haha if I start something I analyze it and see how I can be better. I have a marking company, so metrics and analytics are my thing…

Just try to keep calm, then, whatever the numbers do, because they will most likely take some time to get sorted. The ketogenic diet is a long-term path to metabolic health, not a quick fix.

Your numbers indicate some degree of metabolic derangement. The ideal FBG is below 85 mg/dL. Furthermore, postprandial BG shouldn’t increase by more than 20 mg/dL. This equates to an A1c < 5.
