Okay group, where do I start? I have the overview down, but trying to figure out what app to use to track my foods as I tend to under eat and not lose weight on a typical 1500 cal a day diet. Any good websites to start with to get my menus in place and to be sure I am including enough fats each day to replace all the carbs I am not eating? Glad to be here, my 15 lbs of extra weight is just not budging!
NEW to Keto, don't know where to start!
I use my fitness pal as well. One tip I have is to keep it real simple when starting out. Eggs, bacon, fatty cuts of meat, a lot of butter, coconut oil, olive oil. Add fats to everything. Some extra butter on your eggs and meats. plenty of good olive oil on your salads and vegetables. If you are a coffee drinker, you can add heavy whipping cream and MCT oil to your coffee (ease into the MCt oil though or you may need to dash to the bathroom). Macadamia nuts have a nice fat content (just be sure to portion those out because if you are like me, I could literally eat the entire large costco container of macs in one sitting). Once you get a handle on tracking food, and adjusting to the change in diet, then start exploring all the recipes out there. The cook books I would suggest are ones by Carrie Brown and Maria Emmerich. You can also check out KetoConnect.com for some good recipes. And don’t forget to check for awesome recipes right here in the forum! There is a section just for food and recipes!
I also use MFP and I like that you don’t have to pay unless you want to purchase it and you can add your own recipes to get the calcs per serving.
I really like The Cronometer app. It allows you to set your macro goals, check to see where you are with macro consumption throughout the day, track and graph trends over time (weight, blood sugars, ketones, etc), put in new foods, and recipes. It has a barcode scanner to use to see if your food is already in the data base. There is a free version but I paid $2.99 for the version I’m using. I didn’t find MFP as useful and found a lot of inaccurate data in their database.
