New to forum/fasting advice

fasting

(Matthew Hall) #1

Hello all, been following the keto way of life now for nearly 6 months, I have dropped 52lbs and in general feel so much better within myself

I’ve listened to the 2 keto dudes since I started but have only just joined forum and am hoping for some hot tips on new recipes and advice on fasting.

I have had a few small fasts so far, longest being 69hrs, in now 22hrs into my latest fast and was just wondering if people would advise salt etc for a 3-4 day fast or is this minimal enough not to worry etc

Thanks

Biggyhalls

Check out The Complete Guide to Fasting by Dr. Jason Fung. I just recently finished it and it gives GREAT insight on fasting and different methods.

However, it really comes down to your own trial and error sometimes. Many here, including myself, use salt in the tongue to keep us going on a fast. During a longer one, i will sip on homemade bone broth as well as squirt a tiny amount of MCT oil in a La Croix for energy. Water only fasts haven’t been something I’ve been able to do yet.

Thank you for advice, appreciate it

Definitely salt for a 3-4 day fast.

I’m relatively new to fasting, the longest so far being 72 hours, and I need salt even for 24-hour fasts. The longer I go, the more salt I need. I drink green tea, water and occasionally coffee on my fasts.

Thank you this is great stuff, I’ve struggled in past and I’m off to work on a night shift soon so at 26hrs in I’m defo now gonna try a little bit of salt.

I’ve heard a few people mention green tea, any particular benefits with this or is it just something you enjoy

Thanks again

No benefits to green tea that I know of. In fact, I’ve read somewhere it depletes magnesium and potassium. That may or may not be true. But I enjoy drinking it and the ritual that goes along with it so I prefer not to avoid it.

Listen to the 2ketodudes podcasts that are fasting oriented. These are from 2017, I think there might be one from earlier, but these will ground you well in fasting and how to succeed at it:
episodes 58, 64, & 71

You can listen online here:

Or use a podcast app to listen on your other devices.

I don’t like bone broth so I use bouillon cubes…half per cup for me since the ones I buy are big…and sip all day with my coffee. Also liberally salt everything! I am prone to muscle cramps in left leg since back fusion surgery so really pile it on. Also do 2 multivitamin a day.
