Censky is stepping down as chief executive of the American Soybean Association to take the post at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Well any progress that has been made is lost now and how do you guys in he US put up with this ? It is not even Dems vs Reps as the USDA is a revolving door regardless of who is in the White House.

If I waited for politicians, or government bodies to determine my fate, I’d have to wait forever. I, like you, don’t want this post to go political. But, it is one of my concerns about relying strictly on government funded science. I favor a mix of funding sources for science with a mix of private and or government funding.

To me, thinking that government funded science has no bias, is a dangerous position to take. Historically, we have seen little evidence to see that governments don’t have bias.

OK I think private funding in his area is very biased, Coke, Pepsi etc all fund what they want. govt funding is only option to be neutral and from here the NIH seems to do a good job and would do even better if allowed to go where science points it.

I will disagree with you. I think everyone has biases, and their studies are influenced by the biases. I don’t see how government sponsorship removes this; even with all the rules.

But, that’s ok. No one agrees about everything, right?
