New and improved! No wait, that's new and confused. A little help please

Hi Everyone, I am new to Keto and I am a little overwhelmed with all the info out there, Apps, conflicting opinions, etc. I have a few questions. I want to use Keto as a permanent way of eating and I also need to lose fifty pounds. I am accustomed to eating tons of sugar and carbs. Would it be ok if I first focused on reaching a state of ketosis for a few days and adjust to not eating carbs so much, then begin to focus on my calorie intake? Also, what app do ya’ll ( yes I’m fromTexas) recommend? I think they could be helpful, but many are very similar, some are complicated, opinions please. Thanks, I’m sure I will have more questions soon.

I did this for my first month of keto.

My main focus was not weight loss for 1 month, it was fat adaption and ketosis. Then at the end of a month I dropped my fat and the weight just fell off.

I kept my carbs below 20g and ate as much fat / protein as I wanted. The slight hint of hunger and I would eat. Sometimes double the recommended fat & protein levels.

Hunger then naturally went, and the amount of food decreased naturally and about 6 weeks into things I found myself eating once a day, once every other day.

Much smoother journey for me then my focus became weight loss and it melted away like a hot knife through butter.

Hi Katie, I’m new to this diet too and haven’t yet started, so I can’t help with your questions. However it sounds like we are in the same boat (I am also a carb and sugar junkie) so if you need a buddy while starting out then feel free to PM me

If you can keep it simple, you are more likely to succeed. Keeping under 20g net carbs is really the universal gospel rule. Eliminate all sugar, starch, and bread. No exceptions. Get your 20g from one or two moderate servings of green leafy vegetables. Eat fish, meat and/or poultry, cook with real fats like butter and olive oil. That’s about it.

If I were you, I would not get too caught up in details to begin-calories, apps, weight, etc. Obviously I’m not you so maybe focusing on details will help you. I would cut out all sugar and processed foods. Anytime I get a craving for sugar I would eat something keto. I would add butter to everything and lots of bacon. Once you have eliminated sugar/carbs for long enough to be more confident then start getting detailed.
