I watched a Netflix documentary called ROTTEN The avocado war. Talks about how resources are being destroyed in order to market it. Drug Cartel, murders, and crime all due to the avocado trade.
Pretty eye opening and sad.
Netflix Movie - Rotten: The Avocado War
There are times when I can handle shows like this, and there are times when I know it’ll just make me super angry, and I’ll go off on mental rants which usually become verbal rants, and then I lose friends lol.
Also because I’m already familiar with how the monetary system is destroying health of flora, fauna, and planet. Do I need/want to be reminded of how messed up our world/society/species is? Maybe… maybe not.
I saw that on the Netflix menu, read the synopsis and thought, “Nope, my mind can’t handle that right now. Maybe another time.”
the series “rotten” calls out all kinds of behind the scenes stuff regarding food. The honey one is interesting. But a lot of it I think is common sense. do you really think you are getting pure bees honey from a hive for 1.99 at the walmart without any additives?? no. if that’s what you want you need to shop somewhere else lol. Every industry has good and bad players.
Hadn’t heard of this before. Just watched the trailer to Season 1 of “Rotten” on Netflix.
I’ve been feeling pretty wonderful on keto for several months now … so I probably need to view some of this series to bring me back to that unsettling, cynical feeling I’ve been missing lately.
Just added it to “My List” - you know, for next time I’m in the mood for feeling queasy and disappointed in our world.
I have worked for years for a locally owned health food store. Everything is organic, NonGMO and local if possible…so if course, the prices reflect those facts. I hear a complaint or two or day about how the “same items” can be purchased at Wal-Mart so much cheaper…
Stepping on the soapbox…
Personally it irritates me when people point out how much of a great deal they got on meat. For some reason, for many people, meat is an exception to the “you get what you pay for” rule. Macros are good enough and research stops there. I am not a fanatic or anything but, I think some people on Carnivore might be doing themselves a disservice.
If you have a piece of beef that you got at a great price sitting in your refrigerator - do you know how much growth hormone (or other unusual growth enhancing chemicals) it contains? Do you know how much antibiotic was injected? Do you think that an animal that is not supposed to eat grain and expired candy will fatten with good fat your body can deal with naturally or maybe not-so-good fat? If you are Carnivore, you might think that our ancestors ate this way and ended up reproducing (passing along the genes) so it must be good. But, did they really? They never had access to factory farmed beef and were never constantly supplied with the unusual hormones, antibiotics and so much omega 6.
Of course there will be studies that very price-sensitive people will pay attention to. “Proof” that it is okay and that a $5 factory farmed Ribeye is just as good as a $15 grassfed Ribeye. But, a multi-week / multi-month study isn’t daily intake for decades. Something to think about anyway.
