The net carbs are the ones that count, carbs from fiber and sugar alcohols don’t metabolize the same. Some people count all carbs, but most go by net. Which one you do is completely up to you.
Thanks Very Interesting I am new of this Diet
So I understand that if I count the carbs I need to find prepacked food that have the Carbs claim otherwise i go by net What does it mean “go by net”?
thanks
In the US our food labels show total carbs and carbs from fiber and sugar alcohols. To get net carbs we subtract the fiber/sugar alcohols from the total.
Some countries only show net cards on the label.
An example for the US: my low carbs wraps have 15 total carbs and 11 g fiber so only 4 carbs net. I count one wrap as 4 g carbs.
How do you guys make the net carbs calculations if the food has Allulose?
Allulose should not count - for what i heard -however it is listed in the carbs…
Never thought about it but my package of Allulose lists 0 calories but 10 carbs. I never counted the carbs in Allulose
Allulose is a weird one, technically you can ignore it’s carbs but they’ll be listed because Allulose is a real sugar and not a substitute. Like fiber, it doesn’t act like a normal carb.
How can you handle if Allulose is part of the ingredients?
Allulose is increasing the tot carbs as it is needed to be listed however it is not metabolized.
So how can you know the net carbs in this case…?
It’s simplest to eat normal food and then I can even avoid tracking altogether… The tiny carbs I get are too low.
I don’t think we have allulose here in anything I may eat but I think I met some weird thing that was included in the net carbs (Europe so the carbs mean net, allegedly) but it doesn’t count… Well it’s rare. Almost all my food hasn’t even have a label… I don’t think you should eat so much packaged stuff containing allulose that it would make a big difference…
Or you can count allulose and staying below your carb limit. Or you try if you can afford more… There are options even in not clear situations. Sometimes we don’t even have ANY decent information regarding carbs (eating at a relative or in a restaurant, some people do it quite often), it doesn’t mean we are doomed. Though I am glad I can avoid such situations most of the time.
I have some question marks regarding xylitol. Different people count it differently. It’s easy for me now, I barely use any so it doesn’t matter if it’s full carb or 40% or what. I can’t know everything, not even my carb intake. I know it’s quite low and it’s enough. (Erythritol has the same, some people like me count it zero but some count it 50%…? Something like that.)
I can’t track my fat intake either (at least if I eat fatty meat and I tend to), life is like that…
I still can figure out what works for me.
Many people counts total carbs. I’ve read about fibers not being fully 0 net carbs too… No idea what is the truth but I experienced that only net carbs matter to me so I use that. And I consider it not right to use sweeteners galore (in my own case) so I use very little or none and it makes my life easier due to different things.
