Cool. You’re making progress. Skipping breakfast is the beginning of intermittent fasting (IF). Stay the course.

KCKO

Ok so new question, So I have been skipping breakfast all week and feel great. Fasting for about 16-17 hrs then eating. I have been checking my blood and it used to be between 4.5-5 and I had gotten the keto stix and they were becoming purple … .now this week I’m between 5.8 and 6.5 and back to the light or color on the stix… Should I go back to eating breakfast even though I’m not hungry??

No. The stix are showing that you are using your ketones more and not spilling them into your urine. Higher ketone levels will almost always even out to something lower over time. Your body is adapting. Only eat if you are hungry. The whole idea is that we have stored body fat to use when we don’t have dietary input. You are doing great.

Once you are keto adapted, throw the urine stix away. Your body gets better and utilizing ketones for energy, and you don’t pee them out.

I lost an initial woosh too when I started (9 months ago) but gained it back. Since then I’ve lost/gained, lost/gained. I have other reasons to stick with this WOE. I really like it, my palette has changed, I no longer am a slave to sweets, etc. I am close to my goal weight, so it’s just much harder to lose these last few pounds.

Stick with it as you will start to see your body changing.

Ok that sounds good. I thought I maybe was going backwardst getting enough food or something and messing everything up.

thank you!

All good advice here. Stay the course. Everything you’re doing and your results are typical. You can always tweak and further optimize. I think everyone who’s keto always does this.

I agree with Michelle. I’ve gained some from my low point, but it’s also important to recognize that there is more to “weight” than just eating. Depending on how much, and what kind, of exercise you’re doing (I saw you mentioned 4-6 times a week), you may be replacing fat with muscle, which may show up as gaining weight.

I’ve been doing weightlifting pretty rigorously for the first time in my life, and I think that accounts for a good deal of my weight gain. Even knowing this, it can be somewhat frustrating to step on the scale. Just hang in there. Keep ketoing, and the benefits will accrue.
