Nervous about Physical tomorrow

(cheryl) #1

Been keto since December 26, 2017 – have lost over 50 lbs so far… got about 30 more to go… However, I have an upcoming physical tomorrow and am nervous that the NP that I am seeing is going to disapprove of my WOE. I got blood work done yesterday and I took my blood glucose before the test and I definitely have the dawn effect – I was over 110 … kind of unusual but It ranges from 90-115 in the AM.

I had a blood test done about 1 month after keto and my A1C was great… but just am nervous about getting negative feedback from the Doctors office.

How should I deal iwth it? What have you done? I’m open to finding a new medical office if need be but I’m hoping I’m not jumping the gun!

thoughts?

Every year my BG has been in the 90’s. I started testing yesterday at home for the first time and waking up I was 110. Got me kinda worried so I am going to test at different times of day for a few days. I have not seen my doctor since I started keto, but he is a laid back guy whose mantra is “Whatever works for you!” I have lost 15 pounds since I last saw him - I am hoping my triglycerides have gone down. Unless the doctor sees a bad test result, I see no reason to inform them of what you are eating. I’m eating healthier on keto than I was before. I would just say a low carb, no sugar diet.

Great on the A1C and the weight loss. With a good results like that, why would you worry that your doctor would be disapproving?

If they start lecturing you about cholestrol, or any other stuff, just nod and smile.
If they tell you to get on statins, just nod, smile, and say “I will eat healthy for a little while longer, and we can revisit statins next time”
If they try to patronize you, and tell you how you are driving yourself to heart disease by eating fat, just nod & smile

No one made it your mandate to cure stupid

If they ask how did you get so healthy, you can say “by replacing all the carbs in my diet with fat” - but dont hold your breath for that response…

I think I’ve just heard through podcasts etc about people having bad experiences! I think I also would love my Doc being on board with this WOE… I am probably working about nothing…

Rajseth gave good advice if it comes to that. Do you know your doctor well enough to worry about his/her reaction?

I am at the point when nothing the medical establishment says about any chronic condition is pertinent to me. Their motives are SO demented and deranged that I now consider them a dangerous threat to my health.

So, for me, the doctor visits were just to get their sign off ro facilitate my mandatory physical.
Now, I dont need that anymore - so I will just have my annual physical, impress my GP with my ‘amazing’ weight loss, and hope someday he sees the light and asks about keto.

UPDATE… I was worried about nothing thankfully. I heard Keep up the good work and we’re going to take me off blood pressure meds and see how I do!!! WOoot!

Yaay! Happy for you.

Two things.

  1. Remember they work for you. You don’t need approval from them. (I only say that because I used to see doctors as authority figures who I wanted to please. No more.)

  2. Do your research, and make sure you’re happy with your choices and results. That’s the only issue IMO.

Edit: I posted before I saw the update. Great news!!! I’ll leave this post because I believe in the advice in it.
