Need some help

Need some help I’m 41 5’8” and 260 lbs. Before I started The diet I used To eat stupid amounts of carbs. Drink alcohol 2-3 Times a week. About a month ago I start To get fed up. After talking with my father who has done Keto diets and Adkins for the last 4 years. He highly suggested I try It. So I have been Scouring the web for information and got started.

I started Adkins based diet/ Keto about 10 days ago. I went Into ketosis around the morning of day 3 using test strips. I cold Turkey cut drinking alcohol.

Typical day of eating

Breakfast
Omelet with 2 eggs 3 strips of bacon and just a few sprinkles of cheese. At most 2 table spoons. By going off the calories on the packages this is no more then 450 calories.

Lunch
Salad mostly spinach about 1 1/2 cups lite Italian dressing. Package says 1 carb. I use About 2 table spoons. I add Some meat to the salad. Either 4 ounces of ground chicken or beef cooked. 300-400 calories depending on size

Dinner
Typicaly it’s something like a 1/2 cup or less of grilled red orange peppers. And either a small steak 6 ounces or. Mix peppers and ground beef 6 ounces or so.

I have Counted my calories a few times and on most days I come In around 1400 to 1500

On top of the above I have Been drinking about 4 liters of water a day from day one. I have not cheated once with anything. I have have seen amazing progress in appetite suppressant. Mental focus is through the roof. Have more energy then I have In a long time. Have had a few digestive issues watery stool but that can be normal starting out.

The most concerning thing to me is I have not lost a single pound not one :disappointed:. I want see if there is something I’m doing wrong.

Give it more time. You may be just moving some weight from one type to another. How are pants fitting?

Not doing anything wrong, perfectly normal. I didn’t budge a pound for the first 3 weeks but it happens and then it KEEPS happening. :slight_smile:

I have dropped one notch on my belt to keep the pants up. But most people I have spoken to have lost like 10 lbs in the first 2 -3 weeks. Just want to make sure I’m on track befor I get Disappointed

The most important advice is to give it more time. Keep Calm and Keto On! Looking at your menu I’d say your breakfast looks awesome. However you may need more fat for your lunch and dinner.

I also wouldn’t worry about your calories too much. Make sure you are getting low carbs, adequate protein and then fat to satiety. Fat is magic stuff. If you get it high enough, your satiety will kick in and then maybe you’ll be able to drop down to 2 meals a day. After all the only thing better at giving your body a break from insulin overload than eating ketogenically is not eating at all.

Also take note of how you feel. The scale isn’t a consistent motivator, it’s feedback can seem somewhat random at times. So concentrate on how you feel.

4 liters of water a day is about 17 cups of water. That’s too much! Why are you drinking so much? Are you that thirsty? No wonder you have watery stool and digestive issues. You’re going to flush out all of your electrolytes and maybe even hurt your kidneys.

Well I can Tell you I feel the best I have In years. Super focused. Even started doing light working out for the first time in a few years. I want To keep going just wondering why nothing is coming off.

Also make sure to take measurements. Some people lose pounds before inches, for others it’s the other way around.

I have always drank tons of water. Typical 2 liters a day. But reading about how easy it is to get Dehydrated I upped The water intake. To be safe

@Gdog, there’s no need to drink extra water. Drink when you’re thirsty.

Ok sound good I will cut back on the water. Should help with all the bathroom breaks :joy:

Have you been dieting? 1400 is really light on calories. Your body will “help” you by turning off all kinds of things. Eating more, but the same carbs will help.

Take measurements too.

Go read The Obesity Code, by Fung.

No I have not been dieting. But since I started keto this diet I’m honestly not really that hungry I’m eating 3 meals a day and actually feel full with them. I used to get hungry WAY more often. Friday of last week I actually forced myself to eat my third meal I was not hungry. But felt that I needed To eat because I was under 1000 calories for the day.

Using a calculator it says that I should try to hit 1400-1500 calories a day to lose 2 lbs a week

Well you guys were right. Cut back on the water today to the normal 2 liters of water I usually drink. And lost 6 lbs today alone. Time to keto on

Why are you using lite dressing, should be using full fat. Low fat products often use starch and corn syrup to maintain texture and flavor.

The “drink tons of water” is a myth and harmful. Drink to thirst. I washed out my electrolytes one time by over-drinking water. Went on horse pills of potassium. My muscles werev super sore.

It reminds me of a new product I saw…

A water bottle that has Bluetooth and sensors. It knows how much water you drank and can alert your phone at intervals to remind you to drink so you can “meet your hydration goals.”

We already have that built in. It’s called thirst.

Little update… I toughed it out and kept it going

Started at 264 lbs as of today I weight 230 lbs it’s falling off. 34 lbs total

I have Struggled with the keto itching skin big time. It’s started to get better after about a month. I notice It less and less.

Very encouraging all around got to keep it going.
