Good morning everyone!
I’m hoping someone smarter than me can figure out the carbs for me…Just tried to put this into cronometer with no luck! I got myself a lovely pot of this coffee from a local ice cream shop yesterday. I understand there’s some carbs in coffee (booo) but my app just told me there’s 19.9g carbs in a tablespoon of coffee. That can’t be right?! I’ve never seen nutrition info like this before, the label is slightly crooked, buy what it’s the +/- column at the end for?!
Need help figuring out the carbs!
I am sceptical about those carb readings. Even if they are accurate, you’d have to eat the coffee grounds as well as drink the coffee to consume them. Have you compared to a similar coffee brand to see if there is a variance?
Not yet - that’s a good idea though. I’m sceptical too. To be honest I’ve never really observed the carbs in coffee before, but the labelling on this package has prompted me to!
Morelli’s claim to fame is gelato. This might be a coffee mixture containing a lot of sugar meant to be made with gelato. If the label says 66 grams of carbs per 100 grams, I’d believe it.
What a puzzle!
Your question drove me to look in my kitchen at the bag of coffee beans, the bags of already ground coffee both regular and caffeine free and the jar of instant coffee.
None of them have the list of nutritional information we see on so many things, so I am guessing that regular types of coffee are exempt from such labelling within the EU.
Does this brand of coffee taste sweet?
I don’t recall seeing nutrition info on my coffee either!
This coffee doesn’t taste sweet at all. It’s gorgeous. Strong enough to give me a nice kick up the bum, and paired with thick cream it’s just lovely!
Got to be some crazy error? High carb coffee with no sugar? Coffee has trace carbs. Even espresso only has .5g. per 1oz. shot. The +/- thing is the margin of error. My guess about the high carb count is what was analyzed in the grinds themselves not the brew. Stupid way to look at coffee since we don’t eat the grinds which are after all beans so yeah they have carbs…!
This was my thoughts exactly! How can there be such a small amount of sugar with that amount of carbs?! Doesn’t make sense.
From the research I did I expected there to be some as espresso has carbs, but not this much!
I had one of these coffees yesterday (had it before too) and I experienced no ill-effects from it. Even though I have no way to test my ketones I’m sure I would have known if a cup of coffee containing 20g carbs kicked me out of ketosis?!
You most likely would not. 100 grams of carbs, maybe. If you went in and out of ketosis repeatedly, then you certainly would notice, since carb withdrawal symptoms would return again. I can drink a couple of beers, which certainly put me out of ketosis for the rest of the day and into the next (due to both the alcohol and carbs) - and never feel anything out of the ordinary. I can tell only by testing.
Since the labeling on this product is confusing at best. What’s the point? Just buy another coffee that is clearly and understandably labeled. Give this stuff to a friend.
Those numbers are correct if you were to eat and digest the coffee beans themselves (or the ground coffee). They are, after all, seeds that have been roasted.
If you are just going to run water through them, then the total amount of carbs is very small. Higher if you use a wire mesh filter or french press and get the coffee particulates as well, compared to a paper filter which does not.
That might be for you maybe. But when I come out of ketosis I notice it. I feel it and I’m fully aware that I’ve consumed more carbs than I’m used to.
