I have been trying to figure out somethings about my ketosis.

So my back story is was diagnosed with type 2 in 2015 with a1c at 13.5 and fasted BS at 550. weight was 245. doctor prescribed some meds and sent me on my way with another appt. in 30 days… Thanks to Joe Rogans pod cast I had learned that type 2 was reversible. So from that point I searched and found ketosis. it took 2 weeks to figure things out. I kept thinking why didn’t the doctor tell me about this WOE. We rescheduled the next labs for 6 weeks to see if this WOE does anything. results were 6.5… I knew right then this is how I have to eat.

The first few months were not easy.I fumbled around trying to figure out everything to do right, while making mistakes and learning from them. I followed my macos. I also started IF. The weight started to come off and my BS was about 125 fasted. The next labs I did My a1c was 5.8… the doctor was speechless.I was in a weight (195-202) stall for over a year, but dont care about the weight only that I dont have diabetes!!
where I am at now-I dont worry about my macros as I know what and how to eat.I test BS & ketones everyday. I intermittent fast 24 hours and have for over a couple years. I do longer ones every other week. my weight has been falling now and is 181. my Blood tested ketones are between 1.5 and 4.5 most days. but my BS is up near 200 unless i fast for over 48 hours. I have wondered why my BS are high?

Also so what im trying to figure out is if I ate a meal with sugar and grains why would my blood ketones stay 2.5 and not kick me out of ketosis. has anyone else found this also run into this? Do you think its because I have been in ketosis for years? I am very strict with what I eat. but sometimes as a test i will eat crap to see what it does to my ketones and BS

If your HbA1c is 5.8% then your estimated average glucose should be around 120 mg/dl.

I suspect your gluccometer might be dodgy.

Next time you get a blood test, ask your doctor to request a fasted insulin and fasted glucose - those are good to calculate your underlying insulin resistance (via the HOMA:IR formula), but also you can do a test with your meter right before you draw blood for the test and compare the resulting number with your fasted glucose … and that will tell you.

Yup me too. I kept calm and ketoed on … worrying only about my glucose and giving my body the time it needed to address my insulin. And I did lose more weight as that happened.

Yup it would raise your insulin which would turn off your ketone production.

You’ve done really well
