My mom is reversing T2D and hopefully kidney damage

#1

My mom is a type 2 diabetic who has to inject insulin, has a pacemaker, and her kidneys are “stage 4.” After I had been on keto for a few weeks, I started talking to her about it. She and my dad both started eating keto rather loosely. My mom being more strict than my dad. My dad has lost 17 pounds, feels fantastic, and is back to being more active. My mom lost 7 pounds and her A1C was 6.4 on Thursday a week ago. That was after about 6 weeks on keto AND 2 days before ending up in the hospital with a really bad infection. She’s excited; she said that’s the lowest her A1C has been in years. She’s slowly getting back to keto after the hospital visit messing her up. We are hoping to hear that in time her kidney function improves. My dad believes while she was being tested for things in the hospital, the numbers they quoted were in the stage 3 range (no confirmation). My parents are in their 70s and I want them here for many, many more years. Thanks KETO! <3

That’s so great. Fingers crossed the good news continues. I think one of the best things is feeling hopeful and empowered about your own life again compared to the “it’s irreversible. Take your meds. You’re just going to get worse.” message people dealing with this condition have been given. Best wishes and congrats to your mom and everybody on that journey.

I was listening to him on a podcast today and he said that often kidney damage is irreversible even though a person gets their BS in order. I wish there had been more info. I hope your mom is doing well!

She is doing better, although she’s more low carb than keto now. Her kidney function is improving (very slowly) and she was off insulin completely for a while. She’s now back on it, but at a very small dose and hopes to get back off it again soon. Thanks for asking. : )
