My first social event

Last night I had been invited to my friends 40 est Birthday party.
They had a smoker in the garden and a nice little BBQ in the so it was “easy” to eat what was good for me- besides that it was hard finding out the ingredients of the salads and veggies.

What I found interesting though was that people got almost offended that I would not drink alcohol. Even though 50% of the people there were doctors (as my friend is a doctor) people started arguing about life being to short to be on a diet on birthdays- the same people who look down on you while you lay in the ER with heartaches and tell you that you need to loose weight and get healthy :joy::joy::joy:.

Also 2 of them were diabetes doctors and argued with me (half drunk) that Keto is just a trend atm and will be gone too. So I should not ruin the party for others.

I was happy I was so prepared and ready to back up all I said with science (I am a Biochemist after all) but very shocked how people are actually feeling personal offended by the way you eat (well or not drink in my case) weired weired weired :flushed:

Hmmm…projection maybe? Jealous of your restraint, perhaps? Well done for standing your ground and not being goaded into keeping others happy. How on earth are your choices to eat certain foods and no drink alcohol ruining someone’s party?! Such a ridiculous and childish notion. As for “Dr Fad”…we’ll show him, right?! :grinning:

I still haven’t found out why they were so touchy about it. Maybe because drinking alcohol is being seen as a social thing and by not doing it you show that you staying out of the fun? … maybe… also Dr Fat (hahaha I love that) seems to feel offended by people having a detailed knowledge on something they claim to know better and dares to disagree… not sure

Thanks for the encouragement @KetoKate I felt a bit like some sort of hero standing my ground :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Yeah yeah the little personal victories :joy::joy:

How does what YOU eat ruin the party for OTHERS? You need new friends.

People are often threatened by someone showing restraint and refusing to be part of their club. I give no shits about what people think about my lifestyle. I don’t need any more negative forces in my life.

spot on @matt I do what is best for ME with diet, it is the ONE area in life you have full control over.

You’re potentially taking away their future income!

If I don’t feel like drinking at an event, I order a sparkling/soda water with a lime wedge. People usually think it’s vodka and don’t feel a need to mention anything like when you’re drinking “a water”…
