Ok, This is long I know, but this is my story. I’ve always had a weight issue, but I always managed to keep myself right at “stage comfortable” (fronted rocks bands from the age of 13 to 54) I had to stop working and performing due to health issues I gained a lot of weight. I had a mini stroke. It was suggested that I have WLS to get the weight off quickly. I did that in 2014, I lost my 94 pounds and had no issues what so ever in maintaining. I live in Arizona, where my husband I move for his work and so it’s just him and I, 1800 miles away from family and friends. I live in a very tiny little town where most people don’t care for me too much, a couple of friends. I tend to be out spoken and I speak my mind! Aaaaanyway, some of my family came out for the holidays two years ago and the grand-kids were all, “I want you strawberry cake”, or “Lasagna”, etc. So, I planned on a 5 to 7 pounds weight gain to enjoy the holiday and food with family, I’d lose it quickly. That has now gone up to 30 pounds regained! I can’t lose it no matter what I do. I eat low carb, but nothing, I’m eating as I did to lose the weight after my surgery. I know it’s harder to lose as you age, but daaaaaaang. Now, I am “not” exercising as I can’t walk distance, can’t ride a bike, nothing strain full on my hips or legs. Is there any help for me in Keto? I’m at my wits end!!!

Your metabolism may need time to adjust before shedding the excess fat again. Just keep your carbohydrate under 20 g/day, get a reasonable amount of protein (whatever feels right), and fill in the missing calories with fat. Don’t skimp, don’t overeat, just eat to satiety. As long as your body has enough energy coming in, it will sort everything out and start to shed the excess fat again. As we say, “keep calm, and keto on” (KCKO). Once you are fat-adapted again, you might considering intermittent and extended fasting, but I’d wait a bit for that.
Remember that you are not alone; plenty of people on these forums have gone through the same things. The search function here works pretty well, so that might help you find information, and don’t hesitate to browse through the different forums. Once you’ve been active on the forums for a couple of days, you’ll gain access to the Health forum (if you haven’t already). There is a section there for people who have had weight-loss surgery, which you might find very helpful.
Thank you so much! I am just beside myself. I have to get this weight off. Not just to feel better, but my health requires it.
Welcome to the forum, Joleena.
If you stick to 20 grams of carbs or less a day, NO Sugar at all, protein and healthy fats, drink lots of water and electrolytes, then you will lose weight and be healthy. Keto is awesome, and you will feel great, once you are fat adapted and in the swing of things =).
