Hi Everyone! I’m so excited to be here among fellow keto-ers! Some facts about me: female, 36 yrs old, 5’9", 157 lbs. I’m a little worried to be here because I feel that some may say that I am at an “ideal” weight. However, I truly believe in the keto way of life, and I am trying to get into the best shape possible. I’ve been strict keto for about 4.5 weeks now. I’ve only lost 5 pounds. I completed a 48 hour fast this past weekend. It was tough, and I didn’t lose any weight. I had no hunger, and my energy level was good, but my body hurt, and I ended up with a pretty bad migraine. I used bone broth and salt in my water, but it only helped minimally. I’m not sure that I have any specific questions yet, but I certainly welcome any feedback! I really just wanted to say hello and that I am so happy to be here with all of you lovely people! Thank you!
My First Post!
Welcome, great to have you here! I’m glad you call out the keto way of life, because it’s really not just about weight loss, there are so many other amazing benefits and NSVs (non scale victories) you will come across. 5 pounds over such a short time is great!
First off welcome! Yeah you may have less to lose than many who first join the forum so your experience of losing a ton quickly probably isn’t going to happen. This is a good thing. Your systemic inflammation is likely in check. People will ask more about diet/routine to tailor helpful suggestions. I supplement potassium and magnesium when I fast or else I cramp horribly. My first few fasts were nightmarish wrt leg cramps. I can fast much longer and cramps are minimal to nonexistent. Good luck and I’m sure you’ll get the help you need here.
Welcome, @skepticalgiraffe, I’m glad you’re here.
My wife’s migraines went away after starting keto (and that was after living with them for years), so hopefully you’ll experience this too.
I’m not going to scare you off and say I think you’re at an “ideal” weight. We all perfectly understand the desire to loose the extra pounds. But, what you might discover after living keto for awhile is there’s so much more to having good health than just the weight loss. You might even decided weight loss isn’t as important as the other benefits you receive from the keto diet.
I think fasting is important, but please don’t forget to listen to your body. If you’re getting a headache and need to eat something, go ahead and eat. If your stomach won’t stop growling, don’t continue to suffer, eat. There’s no guilt in breaking a fast early.
You’re probably eating better than you ever have, and that’s wonderful. Something to celebrate! Fasting is good, and I encourage it, but don’t make it worse by suffering if your body is telling you otherwise.
You’re doing great!
Don’t worry. First of all, a ketogenic diet is more about weight normalization than weight loss, and if your weight is already normal, good for you! Secondly, the metabolic benefits of this way of eating are far more important than whether we are carrying around a bit of extra fat.
In fact, my weight is currently fifty or sixty pounds higher than I’d really prefer, but my last bloodwork came back completely normal, which means I am no longer pre-diabetic. Given how much better my life is without the sixty pounds I’ve lost and how much better I feel, I don’t intend to go back to eating quantities of carbohydrate anytime soon. Metabolic disease runs rampant in both sides of my family, so I feel as though I’ve dodged a bullet.
