My son epilepsy and was seizure free for years and I’m struggling with it so I’m eating the wrong food and not resting like I should.
My emotional eating is getting the best of me help
This may sound dumb, but I find meditation incredibly helpful. It’s amazing to me how much less stress and anxiety I feel when I do it daily for 20 minutes or so. It’s helped to improve my sleep as well.
Meditation is actually a lot easier to do than most people think. I’ve found guided meditation are the easiest for me. I just sit down, or lie down put some headphones in, and listen quietly. It’s hard to even describe it, but it’s pretty wonderful and anybody can do it. I really like Tara Brach. She’s records her lectures and guided meditations and posts them for free online. Here is a link to the guided meditation I started with. Try it once a day for a week; it might make the other 23 hours and 40 minutes of your day much, much better. It worked for me, and I’m a football loving, car tinkering lout.
I agree, I have a severely autistic son and everyday is an adventure! Stress is an ever present thing and I try to mediate every morning for 5 minutes and I do yoga several times a week. It helps me focus on myself and what I can control versus all the things I cant. Seeing a counselor can help too!
Also prepare keto snacks like cheese, beef jerky, pork skins, etc, so when you do get the munchies you can munch all you want.
Doesn’t sound dumb at all. I’ve meditated for over 25 years and it is incredibly useful for stress reduction, general relaxation and well being.
Meditation also helps you to learn more about both your personal as well as spiritual energy.
Cheers,

For me stress relief is walking in the park or some area of nature beach etc.
I have never tried meditation but I have seen other people use it as a great form of stress relief
I have this very same issue, all my life really. I’m going to 2nd and 3rd the notions of meditation. I’m a very big proponent of this practice. You can YouTube guided meditation if you don’t know how to do it–it’s a good starting place. Morning and before bed, I recommend it highly.
Somedays I’d be a raving lunatic without it. It helps me manage my stress levels, which also helps me to not trigger a binge. Also helps my sleep often.
Hey thats great!! One of my favorite guided meditations is a man by the name of Mooji. If you go on YouTube and search “Mooji guided meditation” many videos will pop up! You wont go wrong with any of them. He makes it simple and helps you disassociate from emotions and thoughts, and observe them from a distance. This distance is what brings the ability to start being able to not react and panic and be afraid of sensations brought on by emotions or thoughts.
It doesnt happen overnight but it really works.
Is your son keto? As I’m sure you’re aware, it’s incredibly helpful for someone with epilepsy.
@Iced Maybe walking in nature peacefully is your meditation if it has a calming and mind clearing effect.
@Lesley_Monroe In fact the keto diet was developed in the 1920’s as a treatment for epilepsy. And it works. If you haven’t seen the film on Netflix “The Magic Pill” I highly recommend it. There’s stuff about epileptic seizures and autism too. I am also the parent of an autistic son age 24. He’s staying with me for 4 days starting tomorrow and I am going to shift him from a paleo diet to a full keto diet before he goes back home he will be in ketosis. I’m hoping the shift helps his brain clarity and function because he has not an ounce of fat to loose.
Hey just checking in on ya. Hope things have been better for you.
