I had my first doctor appt today since starting keto. I had a suspicion that he was keto friendly based on things he’d said in the past. When I told him I went keto, he said he is keto too and has been doing it for years.
We had a great chat about it. He recommended swerve for keto sweets but is glad that I don’t eat a lot of them. He mentioned that dairy can cause an insulinogenic response so if I stall I should consider cutting back on it.
I asked about fasting, both intermittent and extended. He said he IFs nearly every day, and for extended he asked if I’ve read anything by Dr Fung, which I have! He said there is some concern about starvation mode, but the science behind EF is good so if it works for me then I should keep doing it.
He also warned me that getting blood work done during keto weight loss would show elevated cholesterol, but knowing the science behind it he isn’t concerned.
It was fantastic, and very validating, to be able to discuss keto with my own doctor. If anyone is in MO/KS and wants his name, send me a message!
