My cheat day... LOL!

Went to Cracker Barrel this morning for breakfast with my wife and two very dear ladies that we’re friends with. It was a wonderful time and we enjoyed our breakfast.

I was bad. I had the hamburger steak and scrambled eggs. It came with a side of grits. I ate them. It came with a side of hashbrown casserole. I ate it. And then I did something I haven’t done in probably a year or more. I ate a biscuit, not only the biscuit, but half with a spoonful of their white gravy, and the other half with one of their tiny blackberry jellies.

Yup, probably did 100g of carbs right there.

Only did one meal yesterday, almost carnivore. And today was only one meal, too, Cracker Barrel as described.

No repercussions that I can tell. Not sick. Not feeling bad. Not bloated or gassy. But also not hungry. Plan to eat a normal keto breakfast in the morning tomorrow and be back to my normal keto lifestyle. Did I come out of ketosis? Probably. But it wouldn’t surprise me if I’m back in by now (10 hours later). Not worried about it even a little bit.

Anyway, stuff happens. No worries. No self torture. No penance. No plans to repeat today’s breakfast any time soon. But it felt kinda good to be able to have a little of some of the forbidden and not suffer for it. Maybe some of the resilience is coming back. I can tell that a lot of my health… vitality… is coming back. So even though it was sort of a “cheat day”, I’m kinda taking it as a sign that maybe this way of eating for the past 15 or 16 months (I kinda lose track) has been quite good for me.

Just sharing.

Sounds like you’re being reasonable and not suffering any consequences. I’m glad you enjoyed the flavor and company. :yum:

You didn’t ask, but you get an “Amen!” from me.

I was never a big bread eater, but I do love their biscuits. I was thinking even before your post, I might have to make a cheat meal out of Cracker Barrel

In the same way that one healthy meal doesn’t negate a lifetime of eating crap, one high-carb meal doesn’t undo months or years of eating low carb. Amy Berger

You probably fell out of ketosis but maybe for a few to several hours. Anyway, I see this as a successful experiment. I imagine you have a healthy gut biome to not suffer any digestive consequences and perhaps the best news of all is that eating like this for day didn’t tempt you to make it a habit.

Carl, I have pondered a few times whether it’s healthier to exercise some dietary flexibility from time to time anyway. My usual flexing is likely to be a few carrots or home grown beans or peas, maybe a small sweet potato. Those are way better quality options than my little trip to Cracker Barrel. But it somehow feels good about keeping some flexibility. Maybe there’s a more scientific way of putting it…

Yup. I had my 33rd annual Christmas party with my close group of lady friends this past weekend. I fasted most of the day and thoroughly enjoyed dinner and dessert. No regrets whatsoever! It was back to keto on Monday, no problem. I was even still making a few ketones Monday morning when I checked my morning blood ketones level.

The great thing is, four of us are actually eating low carb or all the way keto.
