My Capacity to IF has seemingly died?

(Heather Meyer) #1

So… in the beginning i naturally fell into IF easily. I was at the point of doing 20-23 hours of fasting per day along with exercise and loving it.
But i felt it would be healthy to take a break one week out of the month and NOT fast for one week. So for one week i forced myself to eat breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner.

Well… one week has turned into 2 weeks and now I am having the hardest time trying just to make it 16 hrs of fasting. What the heck? My willpower has gone out the window and i feel like i have zero control over my appetite now and its actually making me feel out of control/anxious.

So how do you get back to it? Take over the reigns and tighten up? Because my appetite has coem back with a vengence and I have been eating upwards 2000 calories per day…

I don’t know, but I just want you to know you’re not alone. I was in a great routine of 2-day fasts, two days eating for most of last spring. I got away from that a bit, started really struggling to even do a one-day fast and wasn’t able to do it for most of the summer. But I kept trying and finally manage to do a day earlier this week.

One thing I’ve found that does help me is rather than starting with the fast start with the feasting. In other words, have a really good eating day where you eat lots of amazing whole foods, especially nice meat, and probably in excess. Maybe two of those days. Then try to fast.

I hate to tell you this; Heather, but it is because you haven’t been eating any real food for weeks, only junk food =(. You have to get rid of all the empty calorie sweetener junk foods and just eat real food. I know that you have had a lot of stress and terrible issues at home, so your cortisol levels are sky rocketing and I really feel badly for you that you are having all those issues. The eating real food, and giving up the junk is what will help and change your body, and also the depression and anxiety as well will lessen, I read once on here that sweeteners can make that worse for some, the side effects.

Your body is confused, when you eat Keto candies, ice cream, chocolate, etc as your main food and calories, none of that has any nutrients, so you are feeding your body with empty calories, with no nutrition, so that is why you are hungry all the time.

I think what @Momof5 says makes sense. When you take a break from fasting there is no break of any size from eating the right foods. And feasting days should be with healthy, nutrient dense foods that are keto appropriate.

It is easy to do 20-23 hours of fasting each day and end up calorie restricting.
Rebound hunger and weight gain would make sense as soon as you stop.

You might reconsider fasting as not-an-option for you - regular Keto is likely your best bet.

So, move back to eat when hungry - moderate protein - fat to satiety - less than 20 grams of total carbs and get fat adapted ASAP.

Make getting your satiety straightened out your goal (which would include @Momof5’s suggestion of getting rid of fake foods).

yah…working on eliminating or decreasing it today. I think that sorbitol really affected me as far as cravings go. Dont think i will be buying those keto ice cream bars again

It is because you may have exhausted your phases of autophagy and your body is telling you it’s ok to eat more now? (has nothing to do with “will power” listen to your body it knows what it wants to do)

The title of your thread says it all?

I agree with all the above, your body knows best.
I didn’t do any IF until I had done Keto for well over a year. I always eat till full ( and then a bit ) I noticed that over time I wasnt hungry most mornings ( this is really reinforced if I am really into some activity where I might not eat till 3-00pm ). So I go with the flow. But then again, occasionally I wake up in the morning with a burning desire for a big bacon and eggs or steak breakfast, so I have one. It doesnt seem to affect my weight at all.
