My blood ketones are usually above 3. Am I less effective for weight loss in this range?

I test my blood ketones (mmol/L) with Keto Mojo tester every day before dinner. I’ve been on Keto diet for 3 weeks with no cheat days and meticulous tracking using Cronometer.

Week 1:
Ketones ranged from .9 to 2.1
Down 8.5 labs

Week 2:
Ketones ranged from 3 to 4.6! Way higher!
Down 4 more lbs

Week 3
Ketones ranged from 3.2 to 4.3
GAINED 4 lbs

I don’t know why my ketones are so high. I just want to be in a good fat burning range which, according to what I’ve read, is between 0.5 and 3. Why are mine so high?? Is that making me less effective?

I can’t say why yours are so high, but as long as your glucose isn’t also high its OK.
Did you change what you are eating, drinking, doing for exercise? Its normal for ketones to fluctuate, and over time they may settle down into a lower range. And no, its not making it less effective.

Thank you for the quick reply!

My glucose (mgdl) and Glucose Keytone Index as been:

Week1:
Glucose Avg: 89.4
GKI Avg: 3.82

Week 2:
Glucose Avg: 91.6
GKI Avg: 1.51

Week 3:
Glucose Avg: 90
GKI Avg: 1.56

I’m still trying to figure out what the glucose readings should be for weight loss and I just started calculating GKI but am still learning that too. So I’m really not sure if my glucose is considered high or not. More research to be done!

I wouldn’t worry to much about the numbers.
Focus on keeping your carbs under 20g, and the rest will happen in for time.

OK, thank you for the reassurance!
