Hi… what about a multivitamin? Ok to take one a day?
Multi-vitamin
I take 3 a day, as per stated dose…
I’ve always taken a multivit, mostly because the minute I don’t take them, I seem to get hit with colds, fatigue and just general lack of energy.
Use of vitamins generally are quite subjective, but I’d personally rather have my levels topped up, primarily because I don’t eat a huge range of veggies and fruit.
Below is a good link for that question.
My opinion (and I am not a doctor!) is that supplements are a crutch that, if you allow them, may not make you feel like you have to do other things (i.e. may allow for bad decisions).
- Why push for some leafy greens? (I have a multi-vitamin so - no worries)
- Why try for 20 minutes outside in the sunshine? (My multi-vitamin has some vitamin D)
- Why not have a MacDonalds meal? (The empty-of-nutrients meal can be added to my multi-vitamin to make a good overall food intake)
I think the best approach is to have an extensive blood panel done (after a month or more of no supplements and my regular diet) and then use supplements (temporarily) to make up for some deficiency (if any).
Consumer authorities in the U.S. tend to say that most supplementation is not worth the cost, but if you can afford the vitamins and sense that you are benefiting from them, then why not?
My own bias is that our diet can and ought to supply all the vitamins and other nutrients we need, and if it doesn’t, we need to change it. But I would never deny that there are individual cases where supplements can be helpful or necessary.
