Mucus Fart?

(Crystal Michelle) #1

So my best friend who started this with me is to scared/embarrassed to ask her Facebook crew so i told her I would ask here.

She was at work yesterday and passed gas, when she did she thought she pooped herself and when she went into the bathroom a pretty good amount of clear gooey stuff was in her undies. Like mucus… she has been googling and freaking out since. No blood or color just clean goo…

Sorry if this is tmi or gross.

Anyone had this on the keto? We are both about 50 days in.

I am going to speculate on this and say it is not mucus if it has a super clear gel like consistency, it is probably cellulose from possibly raw plant fiber?

This is a very interesting topic. I too, have noticed a similar phenomenon but chalked it up to my body being the weird thing that it’s always been. I do eat a healthy amount of leafy green veggies, so maybe it is that.
I suppose it’s only a problem if it’s a problem. It’s not a problem for me. It’s been inconsistent and generally only happens in the late evening when I’m at home anyway.

This could be another purpose for panty liners

When I had a medical emergency a few years ago and had to be “rerouted” for six months (i.e. I had a colostomy), I would occasionally have a “mucus movement” even though my colon was no longer attached to my rectum.

I talked to my doctor and he said it’s normal. It’s your body’s natural lubricant that is produced “down there” to help keep it lubed to make evacuations easier.

I never trust a used car salesman or a fart…

This sounds like constipation. The mucous coats the lining of your bowels and is normally expelled with the feces. When constipated only the mucous comes out.

This is the third most viewed topic on the forum in the last year.

Mucus Fart. I guess most of us have a sense of humour stuck in pre-pubescence

:joy::joy::joy:. And you just brought it back up to the top of the list… oh, bugger, so did I!

No shame!

Mucus can be produced in excess if there is irritation in the lining of the bowel but it is also a normal bodily function. If she isn’t experiencing cramps, abnormal stools, blood, etc., it’s probably fine. I knew a gal who had this type of thing when she was eating fat free fat (Olestra) when that came out. I know another gal who had this happen when she was taking Align, the fat blocking OTC weight loss drug. It can also happen to someone who isn’t eating and has an empty bowel. So there are many ways to poo some mucus. It’s the bigger picture, other symptoms, that determine if it’s something to be concerned about.

Best comment here.

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis last year. One of my main symptoms was mucus when I farted or tried to use the restroom. I also had pretty major discomfort and bled quite a bit…

I didn’t see this when I commented “Never trust a fart” I think it was a line by Jack Nicholson but I can’t remember the movie. But combining the lack of trusting of farts and used car salesman is very disrespectful of the fart.

When it comes to farts the way of Shrek is best “Better out than in”
