More BS UK Diet TV advice - a whole 1 hr show on Carbs!

On Channel5 in the UK tonight there was a show (Ep 3 in a series) all about carbs

http://www.channel5.com/show/diet-secrets-how-to-lose-weight/ (only available in the UK?)

It had many ‘experts’ including Aseem Malhotra and David Unwin so one might hope for a strong case for low carb. Unfortunately, most of the experts were the same incompetent morons that spout the same old bollocks about CICO, balanced diet, brain needs glucose, carb for exercise, depression from lack of carbs, keto is unsustainable, etc.

There were snippets of ‘truth’ but always countered by BS from other experts. Malhotra was allowed one trivial comment while the pretty flapping heads of mainstream nutrition had plenty of opportunities to spew their crappy opinions.

They had a good guy on who mentioned ketogenic diet elite athletes and then a bunch of fools stating you can’t do exercise without carbs. Several said that sugar works like cocaine yet the segment would conclude that sugar is not addictive.

They asked their panel of experts (not sure who was in the panel) a simple question at the end of each section - are carbs addictive, do you need carbs for good brain function, etc. and each time, the majority opinion was… wrong.

They had a celebrity do a no-sugar diet (after having lost 12 stone/168lbs via WLS) which also excluded all white carbs but not brown/‘whole’ carbs. It was a pretty good low carb diet. They used the fact that she got sugar withdrawal and maybe keto flu type symptoms as evidence that it wasn’t a sustainable diet. The celebrity was smart enough to recognize that she was detoxing from sugar but that wasn’t the voiceover conclusion.

It was hair pullingly, screen shoutingly horrible overall… :rage:

I hope the knuckleheads at Channel 5 could hear my anguished screams all the way from San Francisco!
