Hi, I’m Ginger and I’m new to k f. I started keto Jan. Of 2018 and have lost 65 lbs. I only have 2 lbs to my goal and I really want to stay there. For the last 6 months I have worked it so it fit me. If I am not strict I plateau out. 6 most. Ago I stayed at 183 for 7 weeks continuing to stay on the beginners diet (that is, 20g. Carbs. The thing that got me going again was taking in 8-10 carbs a day and 1000 calories.) I am confined to a wheelchair and can’t exercise. What should I do to find the right amt of carbs and calories to maintain. PS. I crave fruits. Haven’t had fruit all this time.

Hi Sharon.

Congrats on closing in on your weight goal.

Experiment. Only your body knows the right amount of carbs to maintain the weight you want. I would slowly raise your number of carbs and make sure they are good carbs and see how your body responds… maybe a small amount of potatoes or rice or even an occasional treat of low glycemic fruit:

Hi Sharon. Good for you, what an accomplishment (the weight loss and that you stuck with it!). I’m not ready for maintenance yet but I plan on keeping my normal eating habits but adding in ONE higher carb thing and watching for a week or two. In other words, moving my carb count up from 20 to 25 to see what happens. If nothing, then up to 30, etc. My goal is to to see how many carbs I can tolerate and still keep weight where I want it but also continue to feel really good which is the biggest benefit I’ve had since starting. Hope this helps.
