Minor Freak Out!

I had one drink of a regular organic soda! Have I destroyed my progress?

I usually have one Zevia soda each day, which is zero everything. The last time I bought them there were some Big Sky sodas next to them in similar flavors. They said organic and my brain I think just equated them as the same thing since they were next to each other on the shelf at Earthfare.

Well, today I took one out, opened and had one drink. I thought to myself that this tasted awful. I turned the can around to my horror saw that this was a REGULAR orange soda. It had 44 grams of carbs and 44 grams of sugar! I only took drink and not a very big one. I gave the drink to a coworker (almost felt bad because I feel like I’m giving poison to people), but then had a serious freak out.

How much sugar and cards do you think I consumed from the drink I had?

If it’s a 12 oz can, I would estimate about 3.6 carbs. I would assume a single swig to be around one ounce.

It’s all good. One swig can’t do that much damage.

Thank you, Tessy. I’ll just count that in my daily and have it be a learning lesson to pay more attention. I hate wasting 3.6 carbs on a stupid soda. I never even drank soda before starting keto, but I needed something with some pizzaz after giving up all Starbucks and only drinking water.

I love sparkling water. Target Simple Balance Cherry is one of my favorites. I am also a sucker for Topo Chico. That’s unflavored and not easy to find (I get it at Sams club), but it’s super fizzy and that’s what I like.

No panic needed. 3.6 carbs is a non-event.

You don’t drink coffee anymore? I love my coffee…

It’s kinda funny, I bought a 6 pack of Zevia last week. My wife tried it and immediately announced, “It’s too sweet!” LOL!! I kinda agree with her, it is awfully sweet. It’s not gonna be one of my regular purchases.

When I want some flavor I will use like 1/4 diet soda and 3/4 plain seltzer. It’s way too sweet at full power. Lol.

I may go back to it at some point. I tried a few different things, but they were all pale in comparison to my formerly beloved hazelnut latte. I figured it would be better to forgo all of it for awhile and then maybe come back around and try to some keto friendly alternatives.

I am loving my Zevia though. Lemon lime and strawberry are my two faves.
