Hey guys this isn’t really a keto question but I was hoping someone might have a suggestion, I get lots of headaches and migraines and yes I’ve gotten medical checks up etc and they said it’s all fine. Does anyone know any cure or remedy food etc that I can take sure a keto diet that might help the headaches
Migraines and headaches
You’ve had your eyes checked too I take it? Just on my mind as I’ve had a few attacks recently and found out yesterday that I need glasses for reading / screen work as I’m long sighted which has been causing eye strain.
Hey yeah I’ve been glasses since I was 3 so 19 years, I got them changed a few months ago so I think I should be fine for my sight, I do have to study a lot for uni could be the screen strain
I find that a little extra salt helps quite a bit with headaches. Recent studies (e.g., the PURE study, out of McMaster) all seem to show that a total intake of about 5 g/day of sodium (which translates to about 2-1/2 teaspons of table salt) is the level at which the risk of morbidity and mortality is the lowest. For people eating a ketogenic diet, the sweet spot is most likely a bit higher.
I’ve had migraines for 26 years, have had MRI, sleep study, tried 20 different drugs, tried vegan, vegetarian, tried different types of glasses, acupuncture and more.
What has worked/helped has been
- remove all gluten
- on my computers I always use the night time effect (on mac its called night shift, on windows its called night light)
- started keto and noticed an increase in headaches from not enough salt/magnesium/potassium and that is easily fixed
- also since starting keto my triggers for migraines are now only occurring during “time of month”
Two months ago I was getting a migraine 3 to 5 times a week.
The past 4 weeks Ive only had 3 or 4 total.
Might it come from food sensitivities?
Mine were definitely triggered by gluten, which caused a huge inflammatory reaction.
and lack of electrolytes when I fast…
also, crappy oils like sunflower or such cause my lymph nodes behind my right ear to swell, that always feels like an ear infection or cavity and spreads over the whole head from there…
