(What The Fast?!) #1

Hi all,

Work is stressful, keto (for me) is stressful, but life…life is short.
I booked a last minute trip for anniversary/4th of July trip to Puerto Vallarta last night - perfect body or not.

I don’t plan to eat anything non-keto; it’s an all-inclusive so it should be very easy to get keto foods. I’ll probably drink, but I doubt it will be anything more than a few glasses of champagne/wine. (I feel like crap when I drink on keto.) I leave Friday morning, so I figure why not do a fast to prepare? I stopped eating last night around 7:30, will do some yoga today, probably a bike ride tomorrow morning, most likely a colonic (digestion issues galore over here) and ketoGods-willing, I’ll make it past my personal best fast of 61 hours. Granted…I’m only 14 hours in and my stomach is already growling…ha. BUT, if I can do it, it would be a great feast/fast opportunity!

Hey guys! I need some help…I just realized I don’t know how to order my coffee while in Mexico. I hope the hotel has heavy cream (and I’ve Googled how to say heavy cream in Spanish), but in case they don’t…just black coffee then? Or is whole milk or half/half okay? I’m fairly certain they’ll have almond or coconut milk, but I’m sure it will be sweetened.

Just make sure it isn’t Cafecito, with is coffee brewed with sugar. Ran into that accidentally a few times when I was there!

(What The Fast?!) #4

Hi all! 4th day in Puerto Vallarta and while I can’t find heavy cream here, all is well! I’ve just been using whole milk in the interim. It’s not ideal but a few extra grams of carbs won’t kill me. It’s been very easy to stay keto here - fresh guacamole, ceviche, omelets, etc. They have a Brazilian steakhouse as well; we ate there last night and we were keto AF. We did some accidental intermittent fasting on Friday…aka we ate keto breakfast and then ended up drinking rum and soda water the rest of the day, skipped straight through lunch and dinner and went straight to bed. Oops!!

Aside from the booze though, no keto “cheats” for us! I’m planning to finish up the vacay with keto feasting and then jump into a 2 or 3 day fast when I get home.

Welp…I spoke to soon! We went out to a 5 star restaurant for our anniversary dinner and had an incredible tasting menu. The positive side: the best butter I’ve ever eaten, the negative: carbs and sugar were involved.

What I learned: It was the first time since starting keto in March that I didn’t feel well after a meal. I now understand what people mean when they say they feel tired and lethargic after eating carby foods. I felt awful!! I guess that means that up to this point, I hadn’t overdone it with carbs or sugar since starting keto, so that’s great!!

If I’d know we were going to do that, I’d have tried to empty my glycogen stores before the meal. No worries - I woke up this morning and did an interval workout at the hotel gym. I had a great breakfast today about 12 hours after last night’s dinner (eggs, avocado, cheese), and started a fast! I figure we’re traveling all day today anyway - so the first 24 hours will be a breeze. I’ll probably do 36, maybe 48. I’m listening to The Complete Guide to Fasting right now; it’s super motivating and I’ve never been so excited NOT to eat!!
