Metal tongue

I’m demented… I’m 21 months into the Keto woe and I’m very happy with the lifestyle.

I have 1 problem… the ketones in my breath are so high, that it tastes like I have a penny perminantly sitting on my tongue.

As I type this my tongue is tingling and feels almost numb. Can I expect this for life now? I only really started getting high ketones in the breath about 4 months ago…

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

If it hasn’t happened before, my guess you were in ketosis but not as deeply as you are now, so you could add in a few more carbs still be in ketosis and get rid of the metal tongue.

#@%$# auto correct kept on changing ketosis to Keto sissy and one time Weinstein’s sister from “were in ketosis”:joy:

Think of it as a cheap keto meter.

Are you drinking less water than usual?

Along with exhalation, your body flushes acetone and ketones from your system through urination. Stay hydrated and sip on water throughout the day to increase urination. This helps flush ketones from your body and improves your breath. Drinking more water may also help with your weight loss goals.

Haha. The struggle is real… I have to proof read everything I type.

I’ll maybe give that a try. Im already eating around 30-40g per day, but I do train a lot. I’ll test the theory tomorrow and see if the taste goes.

Thanks for the response.

Quiet honestly water is a struggle for me. I live on coffee, drink water when training and begrudgingly sip throughout the day.

I’ll up my intake and see if it improves. Thanks for the article!

What an excellent search function! After a few years of observing a strange symptom, I find out that I have a cheap ketone metre on the tip of my tongue. Yay! Mine tingles regularly. It’s tingling right now after a good hour long hilly run a few hours ago. I’ll delay my meal a bit longer and dream of lots of internal “cleaning”.

I don’t have a glucose or ketone meter because I’m healthy now, and happy with how my body works
