So I messed up, I don’t like calling it cheating but I guess I did. I had some animal crackers 26 carbs for 16 pieces. I wasn’t even really hungry got done with dinner and just wanted something more. My question is now that it’s happened what’s the best way to recover? Should I fast tomorrow? I’ve heard just fasting one day doesn’t actually help but I’m not sure. I did really good all week now I feel bad.

First off, it’s done so move on. Have a plan for the next time you’re craving something more. There are plenty of good things you could munch on. I find having a handful of nuts helps. Getting back into Ketosis will be different for every individual. I am trying to listen to myself more and when ever I think “I wonder if…? I try to think maybe my body is trying to tell me something. For example I had several times thought “I wonder if I should be eating milk products?” I cut them out for a period of time and then when I ate some, I could tell it made me feel sluggish. If you are wondering if fasting for a day will help, try it. It won’t hurt anything.

Normally I would have snacked on nuts I had 2 extra carbs before the animal cracks and it would have been perfect but I ran out today. Next time I’ll grab my pecans or some cheese.

KCKO

Just go back to keto tomorrow and faghetta bout it. If it knocked you out of ketosis you will be back in within a day.

It happens to us all. I ate a scoop of the most delicious non keto frozen custard the other night (and I do not even feel bad about it!). But the next day I was back to eating healthy. I wouldn’t worry about it everything will be ok

I messed up too. I was hungry and only had access to KFC. I ate two pieces Friday. Saturday in the same situation I relied on butter coffee.

I tested negative Saturday am. Today I tested light in the am and moderate in the PM.

As I type this I had about 45g carbs today and I’m hungry. I’m drinking butter coffee. It really helps me
I stay full for hours.

I’m still pretty new to keto and I’m trying to get all the kinks worked out. The hardest part for me is being hungry I don’t want to feel hungry. I want to eat when i want to eat. I need to figure out high fat foods/meals so i don’t have that problem. I did buy some coconut oil today so hopefully adding that to some stuff will help be stay full longer.

Being hungry all the time on calorie-restricted diets is doomed for failure.

Early on - eat when you are hungry but keep your carbs under 20.

After a couple of months you will be fat adapted and your hunger and cravings will diminish.

Then the magic happens. You can skip meals, you can burn body fat instead of plate fat and if you indulge yourself in a carb fest it won’t be near as pleasurable as you remembered it… and easy to get back into ketosis the next day.

One time I had a cupcake that was 26 grams sugar and 20 carbs and I didn’t get out of keto . I just went right back to keto foods and the worst thing that happened was a head ache from the sugar

Please explain plate fat . I tried a couple weeks ago to have one high carb day and it left me sick but I tried it again today and I feel completely fine . It hasn’t hindered my weightloss I’m still losing weight - been on keto 4 months but I worry that if I get used to eating carbs once a week I’m going to eventually go back to the normal ways of eating and fall off the keto wagon completely . I don’t even know why I did the carb day today because last time I did it all the foods tasted gross and today again it was nothing special

I like the little string handle (so cute) for long walks!

Forget it and move on.

This is the only way we learn. We make choices that we regret and we learn from it. You’ve already figured out what choice you can make in a similar situation so that’s a win! Keep calm and keto on!

At some point you may stall and need to cut back on the fat you are eating (plate fat) so your body burns the fat on your body instead.

For me, it happened when I was within 10 lbs of my goal weight.

As long as you continue to lose weight then don’t worry about it and KCKO

Brittany –

I’d hardly call that a cheat. I’ve averaged 50 carbs per day over the past four months and I’m down 50+ pounds, so sticking to the 20g carbs or less is a guideline for strict keto, but some people like myself consider themselves low carb at 50-70g of carbs/day. Its nice to enjoy seasonal fruits and veg at this time of year.

Don’t feel bad. Nothing you need to do to recover, just go back to your regular way of eating. But think about a food strategy when you do get extra hungry and crave carbs, like a fat bomb treat.

Cheers,
Q

I was looking at ways to recover last night and all the post I saw where about eating spaghetti, burgers and fries so I thought maybe this isn’t so bad lol

KCKO. I cheat mega-hardcore one a week and keto still works wonders for me. Don’t get caught up in feeling guilty or panicking because you think you might’ve been kicked out of keto. You’ll be 'aight

(Jen) #19

Definitely this @decreebass. Don’t set yourself up for that guilt/virtue cycle. Put it in perspective. It’s food. It’s one day. It’s one meal.

What a fantastic name for this phenomenon - it’s so true.!
