6 weeks on keto. Period is so heavy and last 2 days longer than usual. Also really bad cramps and complete exhaustion. Normal? I do have endometriosis and I take bioidentical progesterone if these things matter.
Menstruation woes
Keto screws with women’s monthly cycles in the beginning. Some report heavy flow with lots of PMS symptoms. Others report skipped periods.
Watch it and if it continues past 3 months, I’d get it checked out. Otherwise, most women say it works itself out.
I’ve read many times that fat cells carry estrogen stores. Losing fat will thus release excess stored estrogen into your system, which can mess up your hormones something chronic (particularly if you’ve lost a lot of fat in a short space of time). It will settle down over time, but a lot of ladies find their cycles are all over the place when starting keto. Good luck!
I’m really sorry that you are feeling lousy. It will get better. Trust the process.
Hormones are extremely sensitive and need time to balance out
Don’t feel like everything should balance out all at once
Take your time
I have a daughter whose cycle is completely messed up in the last couple of months but she’s down fifty five pounds and her pre-diabetes is gone
Relax
Take a deep a breath
Love your life
Keep calm and keto on
The things that fat cells store and then release into the blood later make me want to lose my weight very fast so I don’t have to keep dealing with the effects. I have higher than I should blood glucose due to this. Even when I fast sometimes. And I know the fasting is releasing that fat!
I get it. I had crippling cramps that started in my late 30s. It took several months but that pain is gone, and my periods are heavier. But that’s a good thing becuase they used to be very sparse and too short. The increase to me says that I’m healthier now… approaching 50 and hoping to have a lessened menopause experience. It’s not more convenient, but it’s healthier I believe.
I’m about six weeks in as well. I had a normal (for me) period at the beginning of keto, which was sparse and more brownish. I assumed this was perimenopause, as this is what I’ve experienced for the past year. I am 43. My mom died young and I am the oldest of my siblings, so I don’t know when women go into menopause in my family.
2 weeks after that period and maybe 4 weeks into keto, I had another period. It was heavy and bright red. I read somewhere on here about people having more effective periods when following the ketogenic diet, so I am hoping that is the case with me. We will see in July!
