Menopausal Ladies!

Hey ladies! I am 51…stopped my period over a year ago, started keto less than a month ago. And now have a full-blown period! I am trying not to stress over this even though I have an appointment scheduled. However, i have read this happens with keto. Has anyone experienced this?

I do not remember where I heard this, but just last week on a podcast I heard of this happening to someone. It is super fascinating.

Yes, it is…and scary indeed!

I bled monthly for several months while I was losing 50 pounds and I was 15 years past menopause. It stopped when I stopped losing weight. Fat does indeed produce/store estrogen. That was more than 3 years ago, and I’m not dead from uterine cancer. Just my own personal anecdote regarding this issue, not to be construed as advice.

The struggle is real.

I’m 38, perimenopausal for the last 4 years, and the more weight I lose the more often I get my period. I’m down 52 lbs in just over 6 months and it’s a trade off I’ll take because like @misterbutters says, it’ll lay off when the excess fat comes off. I read somewhere that the more belly fat a woman has to lose the rougher on the periods it can be. I need to find the source of that information again.

This is really interesting and I saw another video on this from Thomas Delauer, but here is one specifically addressing this issue:

Oh great! I will take a look! Thanks a bunch!

There is a lot of oestrogen stored in our fat reserves and I suspect that may cause some disruption to normality when the fat is liberated and the oestrogen released.

It is probably worth getting your GP to check you out in case there is something else going on though.

Yep! Happened to me as well, and I’m 56! Hadn’t had my period for years and then had it the next two months after starting LCHF.

I went to my doctor and she did scans, etc and couldn’t find anything wrong with me and so just decided it was because of all the estrogen stored in my surplus fat being released.
