Meeting fat goal?

I look at food that some of you prepare and its doused in fat, but to lose weight I was told to not meet my fat goal. I’m a little confused. Can someone help?

Your fat macro is a limit, not a goal. If your intention is to LOSE fat, then the HF part of LCHF is body fat, not plate fat. Hit your protein, the most satiating macronutrient, limit your carbs to 20 g net and eat fat to make things taste delicious and to help satiate hunger if you’ve maxed your carbs and protein. Once you meet your weight loss goals, if that IS your goal, then fat is a lever to help you maintain your weight.

Your instincts are correct. There is a lot of misinformation about keto being this bacon and fat free-for-all but it’s actually a very balanced approach to eating. Not knocking bacon, by the way. If you are new to keto, I would strongly encourage you to check out The Art and Science of Low Carb Living by Jeff S. Volek and Stephen D. Phinney. I also really like Keto by Maria and Craig Emmerich.

As a male I’m not qualified to comment on either post, but I’ll do it anyway.

Carbs are a limit. 20g (net) or less.
Protein is a goal.
Fat (as the most satiating macronutrient) to satiety. Your body needs to learn to use fat for energy. It’s easier for it to do this by eating lots of it. As your body adjusts, your hunger will naturally decrease. You won’t need to eat as much fat to stay satiated. Then your body will become a fat burning machine.

When you begin concentrate on keeping carbs low and not calorie restricting. Forget everything you think you know about how bad fat is. Your body needs fuel. Give it what it needs and it will adjust accordingly.
