Mediterranean olives

What are the true carbs for Mediterranean olives?

My jar says 1 carb and one fiber per 3 olives =0 net

When I try and look up online all I see is black olives and green olives each of these show carbs about 1 net carb per 5

I was having some to snack on last night and I stopped at 10 but could have had more, but I was at 17 carbs beforehand and I didn’t want to accidentally go over

It depends on exactly how the olives are processed and what gets added to them or not. For example here are ’ Olives, green, Manzanilla, stuffed with pimiento’:

https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/fdc-app.html#/food-details/332791/nutrients

Net carbs are 0.33 (from starch) per 100 grams. So if you look at the label on a container of these olives, you will see ‘0 carbs’ because processors are permitted to round down anything below 0.5 grams to zero. However, 1/3 of a gram of carb per 100 grams of olives is not enough to worry about. In my opinion.

USDA nutrient database is useful:

Interesting but its hard to get correct numbers I just looked up Kalamata Olives online and got a million different numbers on 100 grams range include 13 carbs no fiber , 6.7 acrbs 3.2 fiber 5.1 carbs 3.1 fiber to 3 carbs 2 fiber

It’s also hard to find specifics on how many olives in 100 grams I am guessing putting all the info together should be between 20 and 25

If I do 20 olives I get a lot of answers like 20 carbs 10 fiber, or 10 carbs 5 fiber or 6.7 with 3.2 fiber

this is for Kalamata Olives

It would be nice if I can count on about 3 or 3.5 carbs for 20 olives

Use the USDA nutrient database. Even with that, numbers will be all over the place. You have to consider all the ingredients because apparently the only way you’re going to get just an olive and nothing more, is to pick it off the tree yourself.

Use weight in grams - not number of olives. If you eat olives with the pits still in, subtract the weight of the pits after eating. It’s easier to eat pitted olives, but if the type you like don’t come pitted, then you have to deal with it. The number of olives is a useless way to measure them.

I do love the ones with pits somehow i feel like i am eating more and i eat more slowly

Kind of like when I used to eat pistachios before keto, I would always get with the shell to add a step just feels more satisfying with less

This is (one of the many reasons) why I don’t count calories.

Personally, I don’t worry about the carbs in olives. Unless you’re eating an entire (large) jar at a sitting, it’s probably not a big deal.
