Measuring protein

#1

Hello,
I use Cronometer to keep track of my macros as I am new. I want to be at 68 grams of protein. I noticed that with a 5.8 ounce of turkey I’m only at 49 % of my protein. I think I should have about a 3 oz serving. Do different meats have different amounts of protein in them or should I just keep it simple and stick to 3 oz for all protein? Thank you

Hi Ims,

I wouldn’t worry too much about an extra gram or two of protein in the beginning. Keep it simple.

For lean meats 3 to 4 oz and for fatty meats 5 to 6 oz per serving according to rule of thought

Well my Cronometer said 6oz of skinless turkey is 51g of protein, which is about right. I don’t eat lean meat much, but when I do eat chicken or turkey I do try to not overdo it and add olive oil.

Sometimes I don’t agree with Cronometer on certain items because of the actual food’s composition or they don’t have the food listed. You can look at these two which have much more natural foods listed and import them:

The USDA one is probably more reliable, and Cronometer takes mostly from their database anyway.

Using Cronometer can give you a lot of insights on the micronutrients, though you have to remember they lack micronutrients for lots of foods.
