Mcts and MCT oils

(Robin Weitzman) #1

Hi everyone!!! I am trying to find a proper alternative to buying processed MCT oil. Yes, it is concentrated certain mcts, but if the liver converts any mcts faster than other fats and ketones, then why not use avocado oil?! I already cook with coconut oil, and I’d rather leave my oils as unrefined as possible!!!

Thoughts?!?

Besides coconut oil, I’m not sure if there’s another fat source with comparable amount of MCTs, I could be wrong.
Butter has some.
I don’t want palm oil.
.

Straight MCTs have their place but I never use them as a main fat source.

Avocado oil is basically pure medium chain fatty acids, just different fatty acids than the ones in coconut oil. I’m wondering if anyone knows if the liver metabolises avocado oils just as well as the processed mcts in MCT oils. What are your thoughts on that?

This peaked my interest. Probably not, Could be due to the different fatty acid. Otherwise we would have been bombarded with “Avocado oil Brain octane”.
But thanks for bringing it up.

C8 and C10 oils are the ones that are most readily converted to MCT and I see virtually none of that in the analysis below.

http://essentialoils.co.za/avocado-analysis.htm

Fatty acids Range Typical
Palmitic	C16:0	12.0 - 20.0 % 14.25 %
Palmitoleic	C16:1 2.0 - 10.0 % 5.84 %
Stearic C18:0 0.1 - 2.0 % 0.1 %
Oleic C18:1	55.0 - 75.0 % 65.4 %
Linoleic	C18:2 9.0 - 17.0 % 14.74 %
Linolenic	C18:3 0.1 - 2.0 % 0.8 %

Ok, thanks!!! I do pretty terribly on too much coconut oil (I puke cuz I don’t think I can digest it well… It’s really quite gross). So, I was hoping to find an alternative :grinning: are there enzymes that can be taken to help with the digestion of the fatty acids in coconut oils, or will (hopefully) my body adapt?

The biggest reason for me, science aside, is that avocado oil tastes absolutely awful in my coffee.

How come?

(Ernest) #9

Just personal choice, just doesn’t sound appealing to me.

(Tim) #10

Makes sense. Thanks.

(Ernest) #11

I’m a Leaf lard, Butter, avocado, ghee kind of guy. In that order. LOL

(Robin Weitzman) #12

Haha well I haven’t actually tried it, but fair enough! I like it in salad dressings.

(Robin Weitzman) #13

I think I need more lard in my life and less butter

(Ernest) #14

@Robin_Weitzman I love it. I buy it from Here

(Tim) #15

This looks really good. Any idea how long it will last?

The beef tallow is tempting as well. Much better prices than I see at the local market.

(Ernest) #16

I have used them for years. That’s their business.
Beef tallow is great. And they carry wagyu beef tallow every now and then.
You can buy the leaf lard and send them a note to give you a sample of the tallow. They will send you a pound for free.

Cuz… Ernest is awesome. :grinning::grinning::grinning:

Try macadamia nut oil in coffee… Mucho bueno!

(Robin Weitzman) #19

Excellent idea

Just thought I’d bump this thread…

Is anyone using any MCT’s currently and happy to name brands? Just wanted to know if there’s really any noticeable difference with buying Dave Asprey’s Brain Octane, against something half the price!

Anyone had the same effects from cheaper brands - in terms of cognitive effect, energy, mood?
