I have been using organic coconut oil in my coffee. I’ve been researching more and more daily and wanted to try MCT oil now for maximum benefit. How much are you using daily? (I drink a lot of coffee) and are you tracking it on MFP etc for daily macros?
MCT oil: do you track it? How much daily?
I have never had MCT oil. I just use heavy whipping cream in my coffee. For the first 7 months of keto, I used MFP to track carbs. I always had it good without trying so i stopped tracking.
I don’t use MCT oil, just a good big tblsp or two of regular coconut oil plus a tblsp or two of butter (for quick butyrate delivery) and a dash/tblsp of HWC - that is, on my fat-fasting IF days. On my ‘feasting days’ I just have a regular coffee w/ some HWC and get my fat from a nice fatty brunch and my body
Not a fan of the excess refinement involved in MCT. Also, I have read that MCT needs to be adopted slowly, as it can make the bowels too loose - and that there are some purity issues with MCT on the market now, because of the popularity of BPC in digital media, etc.
Have never had a reason to seek out MCT oil. I don’t even know where to buy it. I just eat regular food.
I put some heavy whipping cream in my coffee every morning. And I sometimes use some coconut oil when I’m cooking or baking. I use real butter. I use some olive oil. And I’ve been wanting to try out some avocado oil for making my own mayo. But MCT oil, no.
I use 2 tsps of MCT oil a day, usually. One in each of my morning coffees which are 16 oz each. I also add a tbsp of heavy cream to each coffee, a dash of salt & whiz it all up, as Richard would say
It could be the caffeine but I swear the MCT gives me a crazy boost of energy to get my day started & there’s no crash later. I love coconut oil but I don’t like the coconut smell in my coffee.
I use one tablespoon in my morning coffee with some almond milk (dairy sensitive). It gives me a great boost of energy and I track using Cronometer.
8 months in have never used it. HWC in coffee to start the day and then usually again later in the day
If you try MCT oil, start with a small amount (1 tsp). If no disaster pants, work up to whatever you can tolerate.
FYI, if you stop the oil for a while…you need to build up tolerance again.
Don’t ask how I know.
I tried MCT oil for awhile as part of a medically therapeutic ketogenic diet. Never had the bowel issues, but I’m convinced it triggered migraines for me. Anyone else have that effect?
I use MCT oil every day! But recently, I have found A powder that has both collagen peptides and MCT oil powder. I’ve read that the MCT oil powder is easier on the digestion and easier to digest. I have some ordered so I’m anxious to see how it is!
Yes, before I started keto. I couldn’t take MCT oil. Now I can have a teaspoon without a problem. In fact, I’m not having any migraines. This is Day 29 on Keto. Two weeks ago, I started having tachycardia off and on. I’m assuming it’s “adaptation” to the diet. Usually high heart rates give me migraines, but not now. I’m wondering if my electrolytes are off or if it’s blood sugar or medication. Will talk to my doctor soon. I don’t FEEL like I’m in any danger…
It might be electrolytes. First, try more salt. Next, magnesium. Third, potassium.
Unfortunately, there’s a complex relationship between all these, and it’s tough to know which one (or which multiple ones) is the culprit.
MTC oil and I don’t get along, but I can do powdered MCT oil. I just don’t know why I should take it, so when I finished my bottle, I did not buy any more.
I did use MCT oil daily in my morning coffee (1 tablespoon). After a prolonged stall I decided to cut back on my moning fat to see if it would help. I really can’t say I notice a difference but the scale is moving a little.
