MCT Oil and Breaking Keto

#1

I’m just wondering if there is any benefit to continuing to use mct oil if breaking keto for a few days around the holidays. Will it keep us sensitized to the effects of ketones or perhaps still give some mild keto brain benefits? Or maybe aid in the transition back to keto?

Not necessary, and would probably only synergistically increase insulin secretion. IMO, it’s better to limit fats when eating carbs. After your last Carb intake, fast until at least you experience a ghrelin secretion (hunger), then resume your lipolytic/ketogenic pattern.

From what I’ve been reading, from all those that have been Ketogenic for months to years, is just don’t worry about it. Just don’t stuff yourself on carbs. Don’t count them. Don’t count the calories. Just eat normally. And be aware that eating carbs are going to cause an upswing in weight gain. And that eating carbs, you are going to feel hungry again soon, like in an hour after you just ate to satiety you are hungry again.

Sure, you will get knocked out of Ketosis, but from what I’m hearing from the 2 Keto Dudes, just fast the next day, and then after that have some bacon and eggs. Getting back into Keto should be really easy as your body will know what to do.

BUT… what is your reason for being Keto? If like me it’s directly related to current health concerns (Type 2 Diabetes) then personally, I’d skip the holiday sweets and stick with Keto foods. If I knew I was going to have dinner with friends and family, i’d Bring along a few spectacular Keto dishes to show off. Mainly because they know I can’t cook, and if bring in some bacon wrapped meatloaf, or some bacon wrapped jalapeño chicken, oh how jealous they will be. And amazed that someone like me can’t make such wonderful dishes.

In the big scheme of things, my health overrides what people are going to think about my way of eating. They can see the results of my choice, and I. An see the results of theirs. Besides, it opens a door to them to hear about something they never would have imagined. That the way we have been eating is killing us, even though it’s considered healthy. - that’s my pet peeve.

Thanks guys. I’m not worried about a few pounds weight gain. Im going to start back again tomorrow, but definitely not gonna fast. If I’m not keto adapted, fasting feels like death lol.
