Manual labor and high heat

#1

I’m going to be working out in the heat tomorrow, heat index will be over 100. I have some electrolyte drinks and water on ice right now.

I’m not used to it, but I’ve only been walking for an hour maybe 4 days a week.

My question is concerning eating breakfast or should I IF until we get done, that may be around 2pm. Should I have something in the tank or should I skip it and use the reserves?

How long have you been keto and are you fat adapted?

If I’m not by now, I won’t be. Haha

Been keto since June 1 and down 53 pounds.

Wow, you have lost so much, congrats.

I think that you will be fine not eating, if you bring a lot of water and electrolytes with you, as you said you are planning on anyway. I think maybe eating some Pink Himalyan salt before you leave the house might help as well =). Good luck.

As someone who has been doing hard labor in high heat/waders this summer this is what I would recommend:

If you’re used to fasting, fast until you’re done the work.
Before work, take magnesium (and possible potassium?) supplement in pill form. I take potassium pills but they are prescribed as you can take too much.
During work, drink lots of water and electrolytes. Pack more than you think you might need. I use both bone broth and homemade electrolyte drinks.

Hope this helps.

Good points, I appreciate y’all helping. I’ll stick with my usual IF and increase my fluids and electrolytes.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #7

Definitely go by how you feel. If you start feeling hunger pangs, eat; otherwise don’t worry about it. Stay hydrated (drink to thirst, not to a target), and keep your electrolytes up. You’ll be fine.
