Maltodextrin in my deodorant

(Kelly Silverman) #1

Hey family,

I happen to look on the back of my deodorant and saw something interesting. Maltodextrin

I started to think about my blood sugar and the effects etc… But even more so, why Maltodextrin

I also saw caprylic capric triglycerides… Aren’t those the components in my MCT oil?

So I was just baffled all around… Now I can’t help but wonder if that small amount of Maltodextrin will seep into my blood stream? :woman_shrugging:

Actually… I’m not even that worried about it raising my BG, I think I’m really just bugging out on WHY Maltodextrin is even in deodorant.

That is really weird, maybe it has something to do with the scent and not making us smell bad when we sweat? I have no clue, just guessing.

I really doubt any is absorbed through your skin. Maybe this:

It’s probably intended to prevent clumping. But the tryglycerides? Hmmm . . .

This is why I love asking questions here and talking to you guys… you guys give the best feedback! I learn so much in this fourm :heart::raised_hands::raised_hands:

Kelly, my guess is that the maltodextrin is there because it’s used to turn oils (caprylic capric triglycerides) into a powder. That’s the common processed food application for maltodextrin, to absorb fats. Think butter flavored popcorn sprinkles or powdered MCT oil for examples. :cowboy_hat_face:

My best advice; Don’t eat that deodorant !

@FishChris Oh come on dirty ketomeister! Why limit low carb chemicals? :joy::joy::grin:

Hey, don’t get too hasty, it might go well on popcorn!

Oh my bad, I didn’t realize that deodorant was low carb…
It should be fine then  lol

Why did you have to bring up popcorn ? I had really been loving that white cheddar popcorn before I went keto. And although it’s not super high in carbs, I can’t really eat the truckload of it I’d want to, so it’s not really a great Keto choice now

OK. Try it on pork rinds. Apparently, according to @David_Stilley you have much better ones than we do here in Canada. Oops! Let me know how that goes, maybe a local test is in order on some of our crappy rinds.

Right! :joy:

(Doug) #15

To make you smell sweet. :stuck_out_tongue:

(Kelly Silverman) #16

LoL!! Never thought about that Doug!

(Susan) #17

That is what I said in the second post,
