Maltodextrin and fiber supplements

(Gabe “No Dogma, Only Science Please!” ) #1

My gastro wants me to go on a probiotic whose ingredients I haven’t checked yet, and a product called “Citrucel” which contains “24 calories of maltodextrin.”

The gastro knew I was low carb and thinks this is the best product.

I’ve already taken 1 serving of this, but wondering what you guys think about this?

Why does he want you to take this?

Looks like a waste of money.

Aspartame is generally not great, although some can handle it. Maltodextrin causes an insulin spike. Why did he recommend this?

Ask him if you can use psyllium husk, flaxseed, chia, or a combination equaling the same amount of fiber instead. You don’t need fake crap to get the fiber. And if he talks about diverticulitis, you can grind all of it to powder in a blender.

… and no matter what you take, work up to the recommended dosage. Your body may rebel otherwise.

There are fibers without carbs/sugars if you need bulking.

Personally I wouldn’t.
Recipes that include psyllium husk work wonders.

Has anyone calculated the net carbs for this product or the Sugar Free version. Citrucel?
