Making cleaning easier when you cook with fat a lot

(Kelly LeBlanc) #1

Ok, so this is not directly related to keto, but it is related to enjoying the Keto life more.

I have noticed that when cooking with a lot of fat, especially when frying and deep frying, the tops of cabinets (if they do not go all the way up to the ceiling) can gather grease and dust and get smelly.

To help keep the tops of cabinets clean, and the smell down, line the tops of cabinets with wax paper. Switch the wax paper out regularly if you fry often.

You can do this to the surface around the cooktop/fryer as well when cooking, just don’t place a deep fryer or other free standing cooking appliance on top of the wax paper because wax paper is slippery.

Any other tips? Anyone know how to keep tile back splash spotless?

@CrazyCaper.
Everything has a fine coating of grease over here, including :floyd:
I gave up long ago.

I don’t want to sound like the dad in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” movie, but the solution I discovered was Windex. Or ammonium cleaning solution…the no name brands are just as good. Every hard surface gets regularly sprayed down with ammonium cleaning solution at my house.

Also, I don’t like going to the gym…Two reasons, I’m a penny pincher (always looking for ways to save money) and the boredom of doing repetitive movements (yawn). Cleaning the house gives me a great work out each day…bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, lifting, scrubbing, climbing stairs and ladders, etc…and the result is a spotless house. Double satisfaction!

OMG! All that grease in the kitchen messes with my OCD… my solution is white vinegar, I keep it in a spray bottle next to the sink and it makes cleaning a lot easier. It is very cheap too!

Neat or diluted?

I use it neat on my stainless steel kitchen tops and on my hob… It really cuts through the grease.

This thread might have saved lives, mainly mine. Since starting this WOE I’ve gotten my gf and daughter now fully on board but one thing that drives the gf absolutely nuts is grease on the stove and microwave/exhaust. It was a problem even when we only occasionally fried things but this WOE drastically increased the amounts of oily residue EVERYWHERE. After reading this I now have a bottle nearby at all times and just give things a quick wipe down and peace has been restored.

I bought a spray bottle from Ikea. I buy the cheapiest white vinegar I can and sometimes add a little lemon juice to it.

I am OCD about cleaning and I just knew I wasn’t the only one.

I discovered the wonder of baby wipes by accident. I inherited a white computer keyboard that had been well used by third graders…yeah…nothing was removing the grime! I thought the keys were actually stained. Then I tried a baby wipe and a single swipe cleaned the years of sticky, greasy, ick. The wipes also work on the stove and hood. I use vegetable oil on a dry rag to wipe down my wood cabinets. Oil breaks down oil.

I use orange Lysol. I have a professional fully stainless steel kitchen area. Dirt makes me ill!

I use those Magic Erasers ALL the time, especially on cabinet grease build up. I’ve never seen it fail to get the nastiest crud off! I even tested them once when I moved into a rental, and I could tell that one corner, next to the fridge was where they had kept the fry daddy. It was horrible and the erasers worked perfectly. I was sold.
