Maintenance on Keto

Let’s say you reached your ideal’ish weight and want to continue keto and also get more ripped. I wonder, if I decrease my fat intake significantly to let’s say 30-35% and up my protein accordingly, keeping carbs still under 20 grams, would this work as a strategy towards a ripped body composition given weight training and HIIT. The hypothesis being: more protein to build and preserve muscle mass and using body fat in the process to provide energy? Or would this just lead to burn out?
Not looking for definitive answers here, but does anybody experienced even further fat-loss and thereby even further “ripped-look” using this kind of strategy or something similar?

That would have you at about 60% protein yeah? I’m a fan of protein but you will reach a point of diminishing returns and possibly worse. Have you looked into Dr Ted Naiman’s recommendations at all? He’s getting some pretty impressive results & is a pro-protein guy but I think he tops out at about 30% protein.

I suggest you research CKD and TKD. They were specifically developed for bodybuilders nearly two decades ago. The Keto forum on Bodybuilding.com will provide you with the protocols.

No experience with body building but it seems to me that if you’re in ketosis and don’t have much body fat and you cut your intake of fats you will be doing the “starvation diet“ which will diminish your muscle mass instead of getting you ripped. There are many variations on the Keto Diet possible if you’re at your weight goal without health dysfunction to deal with like many of us. Some start to add controlled amounts and types of carbs when they reach their weight goal. Or maybe just on a couple of days per week. I guess that your age is a factor as well. And overeating protein can put stress on your kidneys, I know that for a fact after a 11 year history with kidney disease, 10 years on dialysis and one now as a transplant recipient. I’m still trying to work out my own situation but keto has been a great tool for getting my health back and what started as a weight loss thing has turned into a lifestyle that I love. I feel 100% better eating this way.
