Magnesium, omad , carnivore and leg cramps. Oh my!

(April Harkness) #1

Since I went carnivore I have had to increase my mag supplementation to 400 mg from 200mg and still was experiencing leg cramps. I recently switched my omad from morning to evening. With everything being the same…the cramps have STOPPED since the time change. I thought it might have been I needed more mag. It doesn’t seem so , if just a change in timing of omad improved it. I am just scratching my head wondering why?

How do you take your Mg and when relative to eating? Maybe you are reducing bio-availability of Mg. Gosh so much complexity in seemingly simple things.

April I hope you figure it out.

Well I figured it out without actually figuring it out…lol. I no longer suffer from cramps. All I did was move my omad to a different time. It just does not make sense to me why the cramps stopped with such a simple shift. Maybe my body metabolizes it better at night?

I also eat OMAD, but keto not carnivore, and have noticed that in the early morning when i wake up, I am very close to cramping up in my calves. Nothing that a little stretching can’t eliminate, but after having a huge cramp one evening a long time ago, I am always a little worried about getting that full blown one that curls your toes at the same time. I do eat my OMAD at night, for me it’s from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.

Maybe by eating at night, you are accidentally increasing your salt intake, and magnesium, and water intake closer to bedtime, and it carries your through the night without cramps.

IMO I believe it’s all in the water, salt, magnesium and potassium intake through foods and supp’s that will fix my issue, but closer to bedtime, might just help out even more. I’ll have to try it, thanks April.
