Macro percentages when fat adapted

(jo) #1

new to this WOE,(one month in and feeling great) and wondering if I need to reduce my percentages when fat adapted? Right now they are 80 fat, 15 pro, 5 carb. Thanks Guys

I wouldn’t adjust until you stop seeing results that cater to your particular goal (s).

I recommend using grams instead of percentages to determine your macros. Percentages cause the absolute amount to vary depending on how much you eat. The thing to vary, once you’re adapted, would be the amount of fat you’re eating if you’re not feeling hungry.

This deserves more than just a like.

Definitely track protein and carbohydrate by grams and eat fat to satiety.

The only time/reason I consider macro percentages at all is I tend to undereat and use the percentages to keep my fat intake high enough for me to personally stay in ketosis - I can’t always trust satiety. In other words, if I look at what I’ve logged in MFP and see 2% carbs, 38% protein and 60% fat, my personal experience is that I need to add more fat to that particular meal, but everyone is different.

It depends on whether you are at your target weight or not. If you need to loose body fat % you might want to up the protein at the expense of fat. See ted naiman’s twitter feed and graphics. Otherwise you might gain weight on a high fat diet, even in ketosis. Happened to me…
